Occupation Protest begins tomorrow
Permalink Closed

Tomorrow, faculty all over campus are going to signal "the occupation" of the campus by extending a white bed sheet from their office windows.  These are extended when you arrive each day, and removed and stored for the next day upon campus departure each afternoon.  Get to Wal-Mart or some other outlet today/tonight and pick up a flat, single bed linen to participate.  The more the better.

And whose tres magnifique idea is this? Shall we write on the sheet "I am an idiot" or just let the thing speak for itself?

An interesting idea. However, some faculty are in offices with NO windows and others have windows that don't open. Those with no windows that open can hang the white sheet over the window from inside. Those with no windows will have to think of another way to participate.

Buttons? Arm bands?

Uhm, excuse me for a moment, but a white sheet/flag/ button/armband would be taken as a sign of surrender.

And I'm pretty sure from where I sit that isn't on the adgenda.

No Quarter, not today, not tomorrow, not ever.

Is Under the Boot the newest troll? Inquiring minds want to know...

But I do think that some sort of protest/solidarity sign/ etc. would be a good idea. What happened to the broom pins (for a "clean sweep" of the Dome) or the "No Quarter" pins?

So, what color sheet would you like to see hanging from windows? You don't like white, yet you have no counter suggestion (How about red?). Then you call Under the Boot a troll. Why? Because he proposes a protest of the occupation of USM?

Red might not be the color to choose...you want to choose something inexpensive. White would be the best choice, aside from its "surrender" connotation.

I am troubled by the immediate labeling of "trolls" lately.

Well, when you've seen as many trolls as I have over the last year on this board, you learn to act quickly and ask questions later. Some trolls have proven themselves to be more than devisive troublemakers, but most of them do their dirty work (a la WJJ) and then fade away (once labelled).

Be troubled by the REAL trouble at USM...SFT's occupation of the Dome and what you can do to end it.

I will thank you not to attempt to dictate to me what should trouble me.

I guess it's OK for a "long-time poster" to suggest putting cardboard locks on doors, etc., to commemorate March 5, 2004, but when another poster suggests that a group of faculty may be thinking of a new way to protest (by the way, the thread starter clearly labeled the action a protest), then he or she is a troll.

Perhaps the idea didn't meet your specifications, but that doesn't make it "troll activity."

Side notes:

I sure saw a lot of cardboard locks, black armbands, etc., to commemorate 3/5/2004.

I have been posting on this board as long as you have. I also posted on its predecessor.

I am still at USM.

Do what you like, RA. That's what this message board is all about. My free speech is worth as much as your free speech.

Good luck,

BL,

First of all, I didn't call Under the Boot a troll.

And you are correct, I didn't offer a suggestion after my comment about a white flag/sheet being a sign of surrender.  How about black?  Seems fitting, and it doesn't even have to be a sheet hung from a window, it could be an armband, or a tie, or a scarf.

Thank you, Patti. I do not believe that the original poster is a troll, just someone who is looking for a way to further protest SFT's regime. Your last post was thoughtful, unlike so many others on this board who immediately yell "TROLL!!!" when they see an unfamiliar moniker espousing an idea that did not originate with the long-time posters.

Just don't yell "TROLL!" in a crowded movie theater!
