the war of the message board?

I mean this in the most respectful way, but how are you winning the "war" when you aren't even fighting?

Except for a brave few, all anyone does around here is theorize and complain. What are you DOING? I am completely on your side and anti-Thames, but I guess what I'm trying to say is what right do you have to complain if you are doing nothing but posting here...no one can hear you...

**I realize many of the posters here are no longer usm faculty etc. and I realize many of you do reveal who you really are....what I'm saying is why hasn't the faculty as a unit stood up and said we aren't putting up with this crap anymore...unless those here are in the minority?

Many faculty have stood up (remember the vote last spring) and continue to stand up every day on councils, committees, and various places where the action is. Lots of that work and participation by faculty in resisting goes unreported but it is ongoing and it is VERY time consuming.

So you have to be a bit patient with the inability of the faculty (which isn;t easy to mobilize into concerted action on the best of days) to organize itself. We are caught between the demands of classes, service, research and family commitments. Most prefer to work where they can -- some because they are afraid to work in ways that are highly visible.

Communicating is important to action -- in fact it is a precursor to action. There are lot of actions occuring even as I write this to draw attention to the coke meeting folk and the issues surrounding that meeting. Some of thact action is directly related to (although not necessarily a visible aspect of) the conversations here on this board and other places.

We do what we can -- I hope you are doing the same.

Who cares if we are winning?  I'm having fun!

Seriously, this board helps keep this faculty member informed and motivated to continue, "having fun". I didn't understand what Shelby meant, but when you really get into the action, it can be as addicting as a video game.  When this is over maybe Shelby would like to pay a new game with me.  It's called RETIREMENT.
