Regarding the editorial ("USM settlement: Waste of time, money, reputation") and letter by Jennifer Morgan ("Campus situation is still 'damaging' ") on May 3, about the University of Southern Mississippi:
Why is it so difficult for you to see that this whole experience began with two petty professors trying to slander Dr. Angie Dvorak in an effort to debase President Shelby Thames so that they and their agreeable colleagues could continue their cozy lifestyles uninterrupted?
They were not interested in reorganizing USM so it would be more efficient and productive in its mission of serving the citizens of Mississippi. They have embarrassed the university and themselves.
To compound this lack of clarity, Morgan complains about a violation of her "privacy" and "the First Amendment and sanctity of academia." No one's free speech was abridged. These computers and their information are owned by the university. This should be a valuable lesson for her and other students since future employers will have the same standards.
