Here is the latest university going completely online. It has SACS accreditation. This university has its Criminal Justice and Political Science Department going online next semester. It won’t be too much longer before students stop coming to USM because they can get their degrees completely online elsewhere and do not have to pay out-of-state tuition.
I couldn't find the tuition. I did find that they are/were actually Draughon's Business College. Someone joked recently that USM was on its way to becoming Antonelli College South Campus, so I guess these folks can be our role model.
Many years ago, just having a high school diploma. Most faculty members don't recall those days. Back then, it did not even require a college degree to each high school. Some years later, just having a college degree was an accomplishment. With all of these online bogus degrees being implemented, and with colleges and universities reducing their academic standards,it won't be very long before getting a B.S. or B.S. degree is just a routine thing to do. Graduate degrees will be the thing to get. USM seems to be contributing to this movement.

Albert,
Until you respond to the thread with your name on it, you are just a big
I happen to work at an institution in a neighboring state and have had numerous students come to us saying "I got messed up by the University of Phoenix." These organizations (I can't quite call them institutions of higher learning) have found a niche that some students may think is wonderful but the truth is, we still have and will always have students who value meaningful dialogue with fellow students and faculty. Students who go this route would just as well CLEP every course and get a degree via accelerated testing. That's fine, but I just can't see that as real competition. Let them have it because USM used to offer so much more than any online organization. My experience with USM faculty (I have a B.S. from USM with Dr. Lucas' name on it and am damn proud of it!) was that they actually knew me and years after graduating from USM, I ran into one of my favorites and she still recognized me -- without hesitation, I may add. I doubt any online professor can do that -- and I've taken an online course and couldn't tell you anything about the professor. I teach an online course and don't know my students. The truth is they are just jumping through a hoop to get a credit. Is there academic value in the course? Yes, but I personally do not believe the online students are getting a well-rounded educational experience.
Why mess around with an expensive online "accredited" university that may or may not be in business next week, when you can get a BOGUS diploma from a bona fide diploma mill?
