I just called and informed Dr. Thames that I have accepted the post he offered me a few days ago.  My duties there at Southern will begin at the end of May, and my office will be set up in the new International Center.  It is my sincere effort to work well with my new cohorts in the business school.  I look forward to visiting with Southern students in the days and weeks to come as I prepare for my move to Hattiesburg and the University.  I hope you will all work with me in making the place a truly world class institution.

Thank you.

As long as USM hires its own with no job searches it will never be world class - Hattiesburg class maybe, though William Carey is giving USM a run for its money - but never world class.

Good luck mysterious Mr. Johnson if you have really accepted a job here - you'll be searching for a new one as soon as Shelby boy is gone (and that will be within a year).

wait a minute, don't short mr johnson.  he is entitled to a welcoming lunch at barnhill's all you can eat buffet for new faculty/staff.   last year new staff/faculty (not sure about those in dual roles.. such as mr johnson will fit, maybe 2 meals) were treated to barnhill's and mr johnson deserves the same.

barnhills may not be world class but at least they are international, i understand they now have spaghetti on the buffet.   if his office is in international bldg he will certainly appreciate food from around the world.  maybe some of his "practical" experience included food service
