I am like most of you in that I had written off WJ Johnson as a hoax early on. But yesterday I got a chance to sneak a peek at 2 pieces of interoffice correspondence, and not only were they about WJ, they indicated that the powers that be are working on offering him a General Blount-style appointment to USM.
Sorry I can't say more but I didn't have complete run of the room at the time and was very very nervous taking the quick peek that I did take. Maybe others know more and/or can say more than me.
On a tangential topic, I have heard that several more of these appointments are in the works. Shelby appears to be poised to reward supporters with professor status should they be interested.

I hold an undergrad degree from a tier-4 institution, a graduate degree from an internet university, am presently unemployed, have no teaching experience, some limited bidness expertise, and I'm a wurl' class a$$kisser. If I go through the drive-through employment window at the dome, can I pick up my official USM professors kit and picture ID? How much of my salary will I have to kick back to Dr. Thames?

Shouldn't have any bearing on the SACS probation. If SACS sanctioned institutions whose presidents hired sycophants & buddies, there wouldn't be an accredited college or university in the Southeast.
