"You're always going to have naysayers, but some people are just jealous," he said. "Shelby Thames has always been successful at whatever he's done. When you're in business, you have to take swift and decisive action, and some of these people don't like that."

However, he isn't in business...he is in education.

Wow, someone must have gotten in the SH's a** about not reporting on USM.

PS: RIP Pat Smith, lol....

Jealous of Shelby Thames?  You got to be kidding.  He is a disgrace to education.  Most of us are the anti-Thames and proud of it - don't never, ever want to be like him.

It would be hard for us to be jealous of someone we wouldn't want to be for even 5 minutes.

I just realized that my pseudonym may be already taken.  If so, write me NSF = Non sufficient fun.

FWIW, I just sent this note to the author of the article:

Thanks for your article on Shelby Thames.  I noticed, however, that you did not quote from any of Dr. Thames's critics.  May I suggest that you interview some of them for a follow-up article?  By many objective criteria, USM has suffered greatly under the rule of Shelby Thames, and indeed he has brought widespread and shameful publicity to the whole state of Mississippi through some of his actions.  Please consider interviewing his critics.

Thanks!

Robert Evans

The thing I find interesting is that these sorts of articles and letters speak only in glib generic terms. They make statements like those contained in this Sun-Herald article (". . . moved the university forward in a positive way," "successful at whatever he's done," etc. But nobody seems to be able to identify any of those specific positive things. The "USM: Progress Report" thread has been available for several days, but nobody has posted anything positive that is of any substance. I am reasonably confident that if there were positive things, the trolls and moles would have used that vehicle to make their point. I am waiting, trolls & moles. Make your point. Say something specific. Stop being so glib and generic.

If the previous nomer doesn't claim it in the next 60 minutes, then you can feel confident that it is now yours.  Meanwhile, it has already been entered in this week's Nd'A.  Thank you for playing fair, so refreshing!
