The Cleveland Browns have named Rip Scherer as quarterback coach and Bob Trott as defensive assistant coach, the club announced today.
Scherer joins the Browns with over 20 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level. Most recently, Scherer spent two seasons (2003-04) as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Southern Mississippi after serving as co-offensive coordinator at University of Kansas in 2001.
“Rip (Scherer) has been a college head coach and coordinator and has worked with quarterbacks throughout his career,” said Browns Head Coach Romeo Crennel. “He is a matured, detail oriented teacher and will be an excellent addition to our staff.”
Scherer was the head coach at James Madison University (1991-04), during that time the team set or tied over 140 school records. While Scherer served as the head coach at University of Memphis (1995-00), they registered the first and only victory over the University of Tennessee in school history.
