Reports from Jamestown are starting to come in now. Thames has been spotted this morning and is "giddy." Apparently there will be an "after party" soiree for the inner circle when all is said and done at the official TLC festivities.
No confirmation yet on a rumor that Rod Stewart's "Tonight's the Night" really has been playing all morning.
Another rumor circulating regards the proposed "water park" to be built in conjunction with the USM campus. Apparently that one died because SFT hates water parks --- something to do with the "you must be this tall to ride this ride" signs.
My husband might not want to go, even though we were invited. I think I'll go it alone if necessary. I want to hit the parquet with Dr. Thames and Dr. Lassen (he's fine).
Upon arrival at the Nitchamburg airport in "THE PLANE," I discovered that my limo is being serviced at the USM motor pool. I'll be happy to give anyone a ride to the hootenanny this evening. Just call BR-549. If we're not at that number, try 1-800-LUMBER.

BR-549 will not be the featured entertainment at tonight's group hug. However, I am pleased to announce that at least part of BR-549 will now be touring with Mr. Dylan's band, as will part of Garth Brooks' band. Dylan, who has been a "hat singer" ever since his last hair transplant, will begin his spring tour with Merle Haggard on March 7 in Seattle. "Don't you dare miss it!"

I thought Ashlee Simpson was opening for Dylan, giant talent that she is. I'm sure your failure to mention her was just an oversight.

Honey, I am not going there to entertain. Rather, I expect to be entertained. The limo is filling up fast. If you want a ride in that sleek long beauty, you'd best make your reservation now. Just call 1-800 LUMBER. We do maintain a logging truck in the greater Hattiesburg area for late arrivals who miss the limousine.

Totally OT, but Ms. Simpson is singing (??) at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville sometime this spring (the Ryman's home to the Grand Ole Opry for those of you not-in-the-know). Such a shame that she'll be bringing her non-act to such a venerable establishment!

What heresy. Of all the pitiful no-talent excuses for singers today, she's among the very worst. Make that among the worst ever. Hank Williams and Johnny Cash are probably spinning in their graves.
Y'all are treading in my area now country and western fans. 10 bonus points if anyone knows what radio station call letters "WSM" originally stood for.
Kinda reminds me of the old country song, "I'm so miserable without you, it's like you're still here." Spring break is getting closer.

Not entirely true...the Opry comes from the Ryman in the winter months. Trust me, I saw it there just a few years back (unless they've changed it since then).

Is it "We Serve Millions" or "We Serve Many?" I know it has something to do with the Life and Casualty insurance company that used to sponsor the Opry (and you can still see the "L&C" neon sign in downtown Nashville!).

What they call The Grand Ole Opry (and the contemporary pap that they pass off as country music) is indeed broadcast from Opry Land now, but the heart and soul of country music resides in the Ryman.
CW Fan, WSM originally stood for We Shield Millions, which was, I believe, the motto of the insurance company which originally owned the station.
I'm with you, Curmudgeon. I grew up hearing the Real Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Snow, etc. as well as sizeable doses of the Sons of the Pioneers. At one point I knew most of the words to "T for Texas, T for Tennessee" among others. The last song played at my dad's funeral in December was (by his request) Bob Nolan's "The Touch of God's Hand."
But on off days we listened to Dad's other favorite, Peter Illyich Tchaichovsky and he insisted we pronounce the "v" - - -

Thanks for reminiscing with me LVN. I understand completely. I grew up in Shreveport in the early 50's listening on AM radio, and occasionally attending with my Dad, the great Louisiana Hayride. Got to see and hear early Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Elvis (before he was ruined by Tom Parker), Johnny Horton, and once even Buddy Holly. It now all seems surreal. And then there's today's crop of wannabes. Harrumph. I'm already planning my funeral tunes, hopefully a few decades in advance. So far my short list features Billy Joe Shaver's "Live Forever," and Dylan's "Forever Young." Not exactly old style country, but classics nonetheless.

That's it! Thanks, C. Well, at least I got the name of the ins. company right!
Awfully quiet evening here on ye olde message board. Is everyone over there at Shelboo's bacchanal, neck deep in ED revelry? Has Michael Bolton started singing yet? At least have the courtesy to palm your Blackberry and send us an update on the festivities. Inquiring minds and all that jazz....

Curmudgeon - correct Nashville's WSM originally owned by a life insurance company stood for "We Shield Millions." Nice reply. And get this, I still listen to radio station WSM and the Grand Ole Opry sometime. Can still hear Porter Wagoner singing "Carrol County Accident." Enjoyed your comments, CW Fan.
