Today’s “Babe of the Day” is just a short plane ride north from
Charlottesville, VA – the State University of New Jersey!

From the Rutgers’ online history:

“Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is one of the leading universities in the nation. The university is made up of 29 degree-granting divisions; 12 undergraduate colleges, 11 graduate schools, and three schools offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Five are located in Camden, seven in Newark, and 14 in New Brunswick/Piscataway.

“Rutgers has a unique history as a colonial college, a land-grant institution, and a state university. Chartered in 1766 as Queen's College, the eighth institution of higher learning to be founded in the colonies, the school opened its doors in New Brunswick in 1771 with a lone instructor, a single sophomore, and a handful of first-year students. During its early years, the college developed as a classic liberal arts institution. In 1825, the name of the college was changed to honor a former trustee and Revolutionary War veteran, Colonel Henry Rutgers.”

Trivia of the day: the most famous graduate of Rutgers was Mr. Magoo. Next time you see a Mr. Magoo cartoon look for the  famous "Rutgers" shirt he wears.

What I like about Rutgers is how they don't have a special statement on their homepage titled "What SACS Probation Really Means."

The Magoo trivia is a nice touch, though. I always liked the guy who did the voice of Magoo and who played Thurston Howell, III, on "Gilligan's Island."

Okay, perhaps I need more coffee, but could someone explain these BABE threads to me?
(not the one where LVN deservedly won the prize). Are these schools that we should aspire to be like/go work at? If so, it is a little depressing . . . .

I'm suspicious (always) too Foot Soldier and I have a sense of where this is going.  The argument will ring hollow when it comes and will be properly put in its place at that time.

I explained myself on my first "Babe" thread, which preceded the "Cerebral Babe" thread. For those who missed it the first time:

While perusing the EagleTalk message board for material to use against the trolls, I ran across a thread on a linked board called “Babe of the Day,” which contains photos of “hot babes” in provocative poses and attire.

That thread got me to thinking: Can I add something like this to the AAUP Website? Of course, I cannot actually post pictures of “hot babes” out of respect for our fine female posters, and I cannot post pictures of “hot studs” out of respect for myself and the esteemed male posters. However, I can post something that is a lot more satisfying to all of us: a brief description and a link to an esteemed, non-SACS probation school’s website.

On the website, one can read about all of the activities that university’s community is engaging in while we are digging out from our mess of Thamesian (or should it be anti-Thamesian?(because he really is a very short man)) proportions. Pictures of academics engaging in teaching, research, and service without fear of email monitoring or random firing! While none of these “Babes of the Day” will be perfect, I am sure they all will look good to me. Maybe they will to you as well.

I am only trying to remind evryone of what life is like at a "normal" institution. We sometimes forget that everywhere is not like USM.
