Did you say he had a grade changed to facilitate admission to medical school?  Does Shelby have another son who's a physician, in addition to the two who're Hattiesburg dentists?  I don't know much about his family, aside from Dana and the tooth pullers.

The story I heard was the Gary Stringer gave the son one of his "bad" grades, and Shelby never forgave him for it . . . and got him fired years later. Seems in character, doesn't it?
