  I think Pickering should rethink his conclusion.  Meredith asked for and received direct authority over the presdents, so the buck should stop at his desk.  He also was the direct recipient of the trees.  In my opinion Watson is the fall guy!!  The least Meredith should do is reimburse Watson.  I am curious if the board will take further action.

Don't forget one important fact:  Meredith is an OLE Miss guy.  Ain't no way he was going to be thrown under the bus; he's too valuable to the good old boys.  If it had been USM, well, we know how that would have turned out.

I agree with this.

Why was USM's President quoted in the American article as being relieved this was over?  It does not appear over, nor was she involved.  Is there more going on with this than has been reported?

Maybe Dr. Saunders was quoted because the meeting took place at USM? Besides, I give the benefit of the doubt to anyone who is quoted in the HA.
