The state College Board this morning voted to go into closed session to discuss a personnel matter at the University of Southern Mississippi, according to interim Commissioner Richard Crofts.
Crofts would not provide specifics about the personnel matter.
Southern Miss President Shelby Thames, interim provost Jay Grimes and Joan Exline, assistant to Thames who is overseeing the university's efforts to correct its accreditation problem, are at the College Board offices but were not called into the closed-door meeting.

Since it's a relatively slow day, I'll pose the obvious question. Would you suppose that this closed-door meeting, which pregnantly excludes Thames, concerns his retention as USM prez? It meshes nicely with the gossip posted earlier by the Jackson person concerning Thames being canned by the IHL, which he/she implied would occur today. If his dismissal, under whatever guise, does come about now, wouldn't Crofts be the only obvious choice to serve as interim president? I certainly wouldn't think they'd consider Grimes, now that he's covered with Shelby's excrement.
