Is Kevin Walters from the HA covering the IHL meeting? Even if he is, wouldn't reporters be excluded from discussions concerning personnel matters? While I'm tantalized by this "report" I'm too cynical to believe it until confirmation comes from media outlets, or from USM. Even if they do fire Thames, wouldn't there be some IHL orchestrated smoke screen to allow him to leave quietly, and make it seem as though it had been his decision? Bad health, or something of the sort?

Yes, Kevin Walters is covering the IHL meeting. I will believe what he reports.
Please keep us posted on this. I will dance a jig if the shrimp is canned. Maybe we can get a good president in place now that will help build the univeristy rather than tear it down.
I cannot give more details, only what has been provided to me. RC is right no matter how you shake it he is canned but the IHL will allow him to save face by leaving on his own. There has already been statements by him that his health is declining!
OH! and by the way this is no joke so for those who thinks so, well think it.

I thought Thames just recently made the claim that he was in great health and having fun, with no plans to retire, or something to that effect. If failing health is to be his exit cover, then he'd better get sick in a hurry, sooner rather than later....like now, while the IHL is meeting in closed session.

Didn't he recently say, though, that he is in great health and having lots of fun? As usual, with his typical ineptness, he has not even left himself a graceful exit strategy.
I am very skeptical of this report but I will be the first to treat you to a steak dinner if you are right.
It is time for positive thoughts. I'll be watching and waiting (hopefully for not years) for those pigs to fly past my window and hades to freeze over; for the gnome to be gone taking the deans and other administrators with him.
No matter what happens today. NO QUARTER...NOT EVER.
I tend to discount JC's story, too. Thames has not made any public admissions of health problems--even though many observers wonder how good his health could really be.
In all fairness to JC, I too have heard from reliable sources that the votes are there. Perhaps in order to "save face," the IHL board has decided to wait until Thames' contract expires to give him the boot so health reasons can be blamed. We can hope anyway.
Thames' contract expires in May 2006. The Board was supposed to evaluate him in April of this year (though today Klumb was vague--maybe purposely vague?--about when that would happen).
If the Board truly is arranging a Thamesian exit, word needs to get around USM soon--or the hemorrhaging will continue unabated.
If you read between the lines, Klumb keeps stating that Shelby's contract expires June 2006. Maybe the Board is dumb enough to let him stay on until then and hope that nothing else transpires until then.
But then again, Thames does have the medical community behind him, so I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to get "bad results" from a yearly physical to speed the process.

I have friends who work at IHL. They've been kept in the dark about all developments re USM. I tried to get some "inside information" during the Glamser/Stringer debacle, and my friends who are employees of IHL said that the board wasn't talking. Unless your friend is on the board itself, I doubt that word of his employment status is circulating.
