My Bearcats weren't good hosts, hammering the Eagles 83-51.  The C-USA Commish should halt USM's season.  This is nasty

While the crystal ball has grown very, very dark over the past few weeks, the Eagles still have a few games left:

Memphis -- another L
@East Carolina -- wish in one hand, etc., etc.,...another L
@Charlotte -- Eustachy could get the turkey! -- another L
TCU -- USM's only hope for a W

With C-USA becoming a "weak sister" conference, Eustachy's improvement could be dramatic next year through no strength of his own, but next year will be the year to do it, as he will be losing his two "top guns" from the current team. The crystal ball isn't showing me much chance that Eustachy's two-year record will remotely approach James Green's first two years' record.

The crystal ball is, however, showing me a moving van. It's too cloudy to tell, but it's not outside of the realm of possibility for Eustachy to make a jump to another program in the offseason. During the NCAA Tournament, firings become commonplace, and it wouldn't be out of the question for Larry Boy to parlay his "good behavior" in Hattiesburg into a job at a mid-major school. As I said, though, it's still too cloudy in the c.b. to tell.

I watched the game tonight on ESPN2. The announcer made positive comments about the coach. Quite frankly, I was quite impressed with the things the coach said when he was interviewed by the sportscaster. I liked coach Green very much, and I wish he were still at USM. But let's give the new coach a break. USM may be losing games, but let's not kick a man when he is down. He's not even completed his first year. Sure, he may have a past, but let's not be casting stones. But he seems to be trying. Who among us is without ......etc. Certainly not me.

I didn't watch the game, sorry.  But I gotta know, did anyone in the audience have a sign about the mess at USM?  What a wonderful way to get noticed by a rather large audience (TV ).

Didnt get to see the game tonight, but I am interested the Coach's interview?

Last quote from Coach E i saw was "he(player who left team) was in over his head, his .9 points per game and .6 rebounds would have really helped up"   Most of Coach E's intgerviews I have seen are along the lines of how the players werent committed, didnt play hard, etc.  He never mentioned game prep, progress, etc

Please share the highlights of the post game interview

Although I watched the game, I was simultaneously lurking on this message board. The interview started before I realized what was happening. I am reluctant to quote anything Eustachy said because I am afraid I would not get it absolutely right, but he did appear to be humble and willing to admit past problems. Overall, he was very, very impressive. Maybe someone else will give you more specifics. I know nothing about his interaction with the players.

First, the interview you are talking about was an in-game promotional "interview" designed to make Eustachy look good. Did you notice how many times he walked out onto the court during the game while the ball was in play? Did you see how many tantrums he threw? How many expletives he spewed? Enough of this....

As for how he has interacted with players, he has run off all but 1 of the players he has "lost" this year. Jasper Johnson, the team's leading scorer and rebounder through 17 games, was told his scholarship was going to be pulled after the season (JJ had 1 more season of eligibility) and promptly left the team. Several other players recruited by James Green sat the bench while Eustachy's ball hogs streetballed it up; these players left as well. Why be a non-scholarship walk-on when you get to play 2 minutes spread out over 4 of the first 15 games? It's not like USM was close in those games. Eustachy could have rewarded bench players with a little more playing time when the game was out of reach -- that's not giving up, it's giving players a reason to hang in there...if you know you'll get to play, you'll practice and play hard.

Eustachy is not the man for USM. Eagle Talkers think he is, Shelby thinks he is, but I'm not sure anyone else (including Eustachy himself) thinks he belongs here as head coach.

It's just a game, Jared. Not to worry.

It's not about winning and losing...it's about another Thames hire that is screwing up the lives of students.

Put Ken Malone on the basketball sidelines and you get Larry Eustachy.

From today's (Feb. 17) Hattiesburg American after USM lost to Cincinnati last night:

"I've got the ref hugging me at the end of the game and feeling sorry for me," Eustachy said. "They never felt sorry for me in my career."

A coach who responds like that surely has to have a good heart and a good sense of humor.

Here is what is what I read on the internet about Jeff Clark: "While her husband Jeep Clark was football coach at Mississippi Southern, Mary Alice burned down their house with a deep?fat fryer."

I reckon he did have a Big Heart!

It would help if the men's team had a decent coach. I know Eustachy's record is good, but his attidude sucks dirt. How can a coach talk the way he does about players keep his job? I just think its crazy the way everyone was supporting him. I used to be one of those people, but now I've seen the light. We need a new coach with class here at USM, not some d-----s that's going to act like a fool.

I meant to type "Jeep" rather than "Jeff" in the narrative portion of my post. But this statement was cut directly from a website with no alterations: "While her husband Jeep Clark was football coach at Mississippi Southern, Mary Alice burned down their house with a deep?fat fryer."

The statement came from a website entitled Melton Family Cookbook. This just goes to show that neither high school nor college students should be permitted to cite such unreferred websites in their term papers.
