I've always heard that first class managers hire first class people, and second class managers hire third class people.

This President should step down. The new President should hire competant people and leave them alone to do their jobs.

Everyone knows SFT is a serious micromanager and those directly under him are so afraid of him that they would never do anything without checking with him first. SFT wants us to believe that all this stuff is happening without anyone even checking with him first? Please! The blame the provost excuse just ain't gonna fly Shelby!

No way is anything that Grimes does happening without direct orders from either Thames or his surrogate (Malone).

I continue to be amazed at how little authority over academics the Provost has at USM, compared to any other American university I have even a slight familiarity with.

Grimes has no authority now, nor has he ever had it. He is and ever will be a toadie. It was terribly unfortunate that he was placed in a position higher than his intellect could handle. He is not up to the job now, and that has been apparent for many years. When Grimes was supposed to be the provost on the coast campus he was routinely circumvented and he didn't seem to be that upset about it. A fish out of water - that's a description he should understand. The sooner that he removes himself from this sort of post, the better. He has no ability to do this job, and every year proves this more and more. Now that his own president has gone against his assertions in public, there is little reason to stick around, don't you think?
