Chad Cornett, former SGA shill, was just on WDAM speaking to a group of business leaders/realtors about work the ED Dept at USM did looking at absorption rates etc. in Hattiesburg apartment markets. He kept talking about "surveys," "statistical analysis," "logarithmic formulas" etc. The graphic under him said something like "Research Associate USM Department of Economic Development".
I thought that faculty and students in the college of business had been doing surveys and other types of community/business research for years and years. I recall reading newspaper accounts of their interesting studies long before the term "economic development" became a fad.
Cornett was one of the worst students I have seen with respect to his dedication to learning. He cares only about how to better his pocketbook and weasel his way into power. When ED was still in the CoB, he hung around in a few offices; now I wonder if he wasn't part of the spy network, given his rise in responsibility. I wouldn't trust him to do an analysis of economic impact of my septic tank.
Yeah, I saw him around. Isn't he the one that was with that SGA guy who ran against Loftus that supported Dvorak during that whole resume spat? What was that guy's name? Chris Moore or something like that.

Man, when I was a lowly hunchback, er, lab assistant at USM, I never thought of giving myself the title "Research Associate." (Aren't RA's correctly termed Research Assistants?)

I also thought "Research Assistant" is the proper title. It appears to me that elevating oneself from "Research Assistant" to "Research Associate" is Self Promotion. (I do hope that Malapropism and Miss Information see and note the dual meaning of that term).
This is the same department where you can go from assist prof to prof/chair with one stroke of a pen. Research associate doesn't seem all that drastic, comparatively speaking.

Let's not forget that Wal-Mart calls its employees "Associates" as well.
No matter how valid the above points may be, please, please, don't attack current or former students.
Not an attack, just a statement of opinion. If I wanted to attack, I would have been much more pointed in my evaluation. What is important to note is that he chose the masters in ED over the MBA degree. Could it be because he is a shill for the administration and is positioning himself for a job with the ADP?
I don't attack current or former students. I attack administration shills, regardless of their ages, ethnicities, genders, or statuses within the university community. Side with Shelby and Kenbot and you lose your right to my good graces.
