If SACS reaccredits USM under the deplorable conditions that exist on this campus, then SACS is not worthy of serving as the regional accreditation authority. USM's reputation depends on cleaning up this mess at the earliest possible time. SACS reputation depends on its making a fair decision about USM based solely on USM's compliance with SACS standards.
There is a tremendous glare of publicity on them. It will be harder for them to give Thames and crew the benefit of the doubt, than would be the case if a less widely known institution were in trouble, or its leader was less notorious.

This is an excellent point -- one that needs to be stressed to the IHL and others. It is one more reason why Robert's proposed solution (an interim president) is a very good one.
