WDAM news tonight had a piece on retired Maj. Gen. Buford "Buff" Blount who will be a guest lecturer at USM. Of course SFT was there for the PR and Blount was interviewed on camera praising SFT for his tough leadership and vision. H.A. also had a piece on this today at
On WDAM, he was accompanied by Lassen and Pood. The report said he was going to be involved with grants and international education. He praised Shelby's leadership.

and just what department is he guest lecturing in? defense contractors to mississippi... must be a business lecturer
"As Distinguished Visiting Lecturer in National Security and Strategic Studies, Blount will speak to classes in several fields of study, said Elliott Pood, dean of the College of Arts and Letters."
I was unaware that USM had a "National Security and Strategic Studies" program or department. Would somebody please tell me a little bit about it? Sounds impressive.
This public praise for Shelby is somewhat suprising. I would have assumed some ill will on his part, considering he was publicly passed over for the ADP position for lack of the right economic development background.

International programs could mean IDV and the IDV includes students getting business PhDs so maybe.

We couldn't get lucky enough to have SFT a bit too close to the action could we?

I hope classes will be dismissed during that time.

Sorry, but CoST got Kenbot . Need to spread the good will.
THIS IS JUST THE KIND OF SFT TACTICS WE GET CAUGHT UP IN BY FOCUSING ON THE MICKEY MOUSE ARGUMENTS.
WAKE UP PEEPS AND RESPOND WITH FEEDBACK!!!
The reality of this hire is clear! First I must ask just what are his credentials? Does retiring from the military as a General qualify him to teach at a University? Maybe ROTC but not acedemics.
Well SFT did not hire him for his teaching. What department on campus other than ROTC needs defense funding? The answer is Polymer Science. Now SFT can disguise lining his personal pockets by saying the General is on staff and can now justify the University to pay the General's expenses to trafvel to Washington so that the General can hob-knob at the University expense to make SFT personally richer!!!!! You really do not think the Poly-Sci budget will pay the expense?
THINK Y+THINK!!
What trips can the General make to Washington on behalf of acedemics to get federal funding for pay raises?? SFT could careless, he only wants to make money for himself and let the University pay for it. There needs to be questions posed and audits performed.
It's more than that. It is a strategic move to divide the community. The Independent came out strongly in support of Blount for the ADP position. The Independent is solidly behind economic development but has recently been pretty anti-Thames. Whose favor is Shelby currying with this hire? Don't underestimate the timing of this PR move.
