Walt Cain is trying to get together a large student rally tomorrow. They know that a very quick response is necessary this time (Thames is barely hanging on). Faculty need to be ready with a response.

Dr. Goebbels, refresh my memory. What actually happened to you after the war? Did you die in the bunker or get tried at Nuremberg? (Walt, it is time to study history.)
I have heard that the Thames boys are going to be working the Hatt Clinic really hard tomorrow. Everyone needs to be steadfast against a desperate defense --- a bunker mentality with scorced earth from the other side. The letter writing wars are about to begin anew. Be prepared.

The Hattiesburg Clinic. The boys are oral surgeons and have used their contacts in the past with the medical community to get some letters and other things. I now hear they are going to go hard at it this time.

It is so hilarious how he always accuses us of trying to get attention or get on camera. Everytime I turn around I see that fools face or read his ridiculous quotes to the paper. From my view, he just simply doesn't represent the student body very well. He will never let the students have a no confidence vote in Shelby. He is the one who is self serving.
Look at that boys eyes next time ya see him. Either he smokes up it alot or he just has the dumbest expression stuck on his face. This students bets he smokes a little bit a that funny grass.

Any students interested can join the yahoo group. Its a useful tool to set up a place for planning meetings. It's about time the students arise once more. We need to be there to counter Cain's rally.
If the Faculty Senate has to meet again to consider a resolution of no confidence in Roy Klumb--and it look as though they will--they should add a resolution of no confidence in Walt Cain. Maybe stating that the FS will not cooperate with the SGA on anything as long as Cain is running that show.

Though I attended the rallies last year, truth, I did so independently and don't even know what groups organized it. I'd be happy to attend one where they burn Cain in effigy, though.

Hattiesburg Clinic has lots to lose if USM goes under or if our university becomes a third world player in Mississippi's higher education system. I would think that group would vigorously insist that the IHL take strong action and take it now. There are, of course, other businesses in and around Hattiesburg that have much to lose also.

Looking in from the outside, this is one thing that I do know. The Hattiesburg Clinic leaned heavily on the university--and especially its arts programs--in trying to recruit young doctors to the area. Surely these same people can see what is happening now.
Why don't they hold the rally in his newly decorated office in the Poly-sci lab that cost him over $4million to build and that was state money that could have been used for raises!

They've got lots to lose also. If becomes a bush league player in the higher education business, professionals will be reluctant to move to this community. Someone pointed out previously on this thread that USM's cultural advantages can play an important role in recruiting those professionals.
I tried to join the yahoogroup posted above and never got a response. Is it up and working now or what? I would like to know that I helped try to save the ship before we all went down. Everyone has a lot to lose, not just the Hattiesburg Clinic.

If you'll look carefully at those letters, I believe you will find that most of those those anti- faculty letters came from that "other" medical group. One of the strongest, and earliest, pro- faculty letters published came from a Hattiesburg Clinic doctor.

That would be Dr. Hartwig and his wife who were invaluable last spring in their defense of the university and its faculty.

Other letters have come from 2 or three of the Drs. Guice (ENT, urologist, etc) and a doctor named McCann (or something close). These were all pro-Thames letters.
Hattiesburg Clinic isn't the only game in town. In fact, it is arguable that the better specialists in almost every field are not affiliated with Hattiesburg Clinic.
Hattiesburg Clinic is a business just like any other business. It can be boycotted just like any other business. Do not let a physician or dentist tell you that you must use the specialist they want you to use. Usually if you track it back enough, you'll find that the referral is based more on personal/social contacts than anything else.
Above all, remember that physicians are usually not nearly as smart as their mothers thing they are. And an awful lot of dentists are dentists because they couldn't score high enough on the MCAT to be physicians. In the Hattiesburg area, most of the really "wealthy" physicians & dentists got that way by buying & selling real estate & not by being Christian Barnard made over.

And aren't we lucky that USM has provided a way for its faculty members to become "millionaires" without buying and selling real estate?
