IHL Board will soon get tired of cleaning up Thames messes. Word from those who know is that one formerly neutral board member is almost at that point and a second is getting there.
will any of us who love USM be here in person to enjoy the vistory? WE will win the war, its these *!@% battles that are killing us! Tell us more, give us a shard of hope! Some of us are sending out vitae and really do want to stay here, every day our resolve gets weaker and our spirits lower. Details, please.

Polish your vita and take every precaution to ensure your own future . . . . but don't give up completely. Spring is coming . . . we will all know a great deal more in the next few months. This was the time only four years ago when Horace went up before the Board -- and was offered a one year contract.
The Board has a decision coming. We are not helpless.

As others have pointed out in other threads, now would be a good time to re-up that letter writing campaign to IHL. I know many have continued to pepper IHL with letters, and I thank those who have done so. But I think it's fair to say that IHL has heard less from us in recent months than it did in the furor last spring--and than it needs to. While it seems that they aren't interested in listening, if we don't scream, they won't have to bother even hearing.

Not so very different from the spell I taught to Harry Potter and his classmates. A "ridiculous" spell conquers darkest fears by changing terror into humor. If it were only so easy.

Unfortunately, the gift of discernment is lacking in at least 90% of Mississippi's population.
There are select spirits for whom it is ordained that their fame shall be in the world an existence like that of Virtue, which owes its being to the struggles it makes, and its vigor to the enemies it provokes—a vivacious quality, ever doomed to meet with opposition, and still triumphing over it; and, from the nature of its dominion, incapable of being brought to the sad conclusion of Alexander, when he wept that there were no more worlds for him to conquer.

Me too! He was at Belleview Baptist Church in Memphis, as I recall.
Who I am, is not important, but I left. A tenured associate professor. I left because of that evil, evil, THING and his cronies. I have watched your fight and every time the anti Christ screws up, I rejoice, but to no avail. And I have watched your fight on here, admiring you as I did not have the b%^&&s to stay. However, YOU WILL NOT WIN THIS FIGHT ON HERE. You will have to go over to some action. So, the FS, once again, voted against Thames. Do you for one moment think Roy Klumb cares? Do you for one moment believe that Susan Sharpe pass on messages? Give me a break. Her job is that of Lisa S Mader. Carl Nicholson and enemies got rid of Horace Fleming because the latter pointed out their dirty little games to them. And, in the state of Ms one does not go against the old boys club.
Take your fight out in the public. Someone has suggested on another thread to take out full page ads, discouraging parents to send their children there ... that is the kind of strategy that will get you somewhere. Take off the gloves. You are fighting someone with no class. I still believe the ONLY way to win this fight is to SUE IHL. And trust me, you have more than enough grounds to sue them. Also they are s*&*t scared of being sued.
God bless y'all and I will be watching the fight from the sideline. I pray that you will prevail.
The IHL Board doesn't like being sued, and doesn't like being in the newspapers all the time. It will take effort, but there are ways to keep the Board in the newspapers all the time.

Left Too - I am not a graduate of USM and I am not a USM employee. Nonetheless, I would happily contribute to a fund established for either of the purposes you mention. Much damage is being done. Some of us believe that this is being done knowingly and deliberately.

Sure. My experience is that most state agencies & officials have developed pretty thick hides about lawsuits, because 99.9% of the time the individuals involved are immune from any personal liability. In short, IHL doesn't give a rat's ass if anybody sues them.
Further, the way Mississippi law is constructed, were such a suit brought in state court there would be a better than 50:50 chance that the first thing the court would do is dismiss it as being either unconstitutional or without merit. Remember, the state courts are part of the same "old boy network" that we're up against.
Sovereign immunity was only repealed a few years ago & it is still difficult to get around the general concept.
When would the suit finally be heard if it did make it into the courts? Five years from now? Ten? Fifteen?
Now, should USM lose accreditation (unlikely) or go into a second year of probation (more likely), there might be some legal avenues open for parents & students to sue the IHL board for negligence. However, the way state law is now constructed, these would likely be limited to actual damages (i.e., recovery of tuition & fees), which would only put USM in worse financial straits than it's already enjoying.
A suit that was constructed so that there would be significant collateral damage to all other state institutions would likely be the only one that would get IHL's attention. And that's because...

It is. USM has no friend on the IHL board. Period.
Let us also noter that if IHL does remove Thames from the USM presidency -- and ultimately they will have to replace him -- we have no insurance that they won't pick someone 212 times more obnoxious, regressive & corrupt. I for one would not be surprised if that's exactly what happens.

Invictus,
You aren't saying the Board is ready to replace him with Roy Klumb--or are you?
Since GWSA has bumped up the other thread, with which I respectfully disagree, I am likewise bumping up this one.
I am not the only one that thinks the tide may have turned. It is the nature of tides to do so. It is also the nature of falsehood to be finally untenable.
(Newcomers, please note that "WAR" is a FIGURE OF SPEECH, and moreover one commonly used in our society to denote any marked struggle.)
