I've posted an update in Liberty and Power, covering today's truly distressing editorial in the Hattiesburg American, and the plan to "pump" the Executive MBA program.
I know that the editorial writers for the Hat Am aren't experts on higher education, but today's piece suggests they've turned off their bull$hit detectors for the remainder of Thames' reign.

Oops - that would be Angeline - I'm way too tired.

Angeline, when I posted on the predicted direction of the HA editorial page following the SACS letter, you said I was full of crap. The HA took a step in my direction with its editorial following the SFT argument. Am I still way off base?
Dick, I probably shouldn't try to speak for Angeline, but when I read her "full of crap" post, I did not think she was referring to what YOU said, but the spin that Thames was putting on the SACS situation. I'm sure she'll correct me if I'm wrong.
And let me be the first to say that you were right on with your prediction of the Hattiesburg American's editorial stance.
Thanks for your clear, spirited summary of the most current round of Thamesian depredations.
Here are two factual errata you might want to clear up in a subsequent number of Liberty and Power.
1.) There were two Gulf Coast profs, both Dr. James Pat Smith (a Professor of History at USM Gulf Coast) and Dr. Will Watson, who were reprimanded and censored by Jay Grimes over the revelation of Malone's plans to mangle the Gulf PArk Library.
2.) USM-Gulf Coast includes but is not limited to the Gulf Park campus. There are also three other USM teaching sites on the Coast: at Stennis Space Center, at Keesler AFB, and in Jackson County adjacent the Gautier campus of MGCCC there. The total enrollment on the Coast, in all these centers, is around 2000 students, I think.
Professor Watson, your situation is so outrageous that it boggles my mind, and I had thought my mind was pretty well boggled-out by now. At least the people who interfered with Professor Stevenson were not actual scholars, nor in her chain of command, but for Dr. Grimes to do this defies reason.
I can't make suggestions, as I don't know your situation, but I hope there is something you can do. If there is anything I can do, truth knows my email address.
I know one thing I can do. If there is ANY faculty member out there who wants to join AAUP and just simply can't afford the dues, ask Truth to put you in touch with me. I could help two or three people.

That is a generous and wonderful offer, LVN. You have been a tireless supporter - I hope you get taken up on this offer.

Well, your moniker set off alarm bells immediately, if you were meaning to ape that bonehead political consultant in DC with the odd sexual tastes, but I was really referring to the way that Thames & Co. were portraying the whole crisis. But your last sentence also ticked me off: "It's clear at this point that further complaints on the SACS issue, at least in the immediate term, looks like sour grapes." Maybe that is not how you feel, and email/blogging is famous for not tranlsating intent well, but it wasn't clear from your post. I freely admit that I am getting more emotional about the situation at USM as the chasm deepens and nothing seems capable of saving us. So, nothing personal, ok?
Thanks for another great report. A small correction:
"Thames had thoughtfully informed the media of his plans to fire them the night before."
He actually informed local business leaders the night before, the same people who had been instrumental in hiring and then effectively firing Fleming, Thames's predecessor. The media heard the story at the same time the faculty did, the next morning.
