Has anyone else heard the story that Kelly Booth is going to be named President of the USM Research Foundation?  Who is he/she?

She is the wife of Ken Malone, a principal with Noetic, a former USM employee (while Noetic was being formed) and maybe a former chemist/product manager with Atofina Chemicals.

How perfectly great!  A family job snowball!  Shades of Dvorak!

From another thread:  Rumo(u)r has it that that illustrious jack-of-all-trades, Ken Malone, has been made head of Continuing Education in addition to his many duties as COO at Gulf Park & chair of Economic Development.

This is getting ridiculous.

So what's new with nepotism? This is the Magnolia State. Lest we forget, I'll repost the lyrics of the song that WUSM played right after the G-S hearing...

Every step of the way we walk the line
Your days are numbered, so are mine
Time is pilin' up, we struggle and we scrape
We're all boxed in, nowhere to escape

City's just a jungle, more games to play
Trapped in the heart of it, trying to get away
I was raised in the country, I been workin' in the town
I been in trouble ever since I set my suitcase down

Got nothing for you, I had nothing before
Don't even have anything for myself anymore
Sky full of fire, pain pourin' down
Nothing you can sell me, I'll see you around

All my powers of expression and thoughts so sublime
Could never do you justice in reason or rhyme
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long

Well, the devil's in the alley, mule's in the stall
Say anything you wanna, I have heard it all
I was thinkin' about the things that Rosie said
I was dreaming I was sleeping in Rosie's bed

Walking through the leaves, falling from the trees
Feeling like a stranger nobody sees
So many things that we never will undo
I know you're sorry, I'm sorry too

Some people will offer you their hand and some won't
Last night I knew you, tonight I don't
I need somethin' strong to distract my mind
I'm gonna look at you 'til my eyes go blind

Well I got here following the southern star
I crossed that river just to be where you are
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long

Well my ship's been split to splinters and it's sinking fast
I'm drownin' in the poison, got no future, got no past
But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free
I've got nothin' but affection for all those who've sailed with me

Everybody movin' if they ain't already there
Everybody got to move somewhere
Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow
Things should start to get interesting right about now

My clothes are wet, tight on my skin
Not as tight as the corner that I painted myself in
I know that fortune is waitin' to be kind
So give me your hand and say you'll be mine

Well, the emptiness is endless, cold as the clay
You can always come back, but you can't come back all the way
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long

First song that this old geezer ever downloaded off the internet. (Don't worry, I did pay for it.) Thanks Invictus.

Unbelievable!!! Hopefully this will find itself in the press and perhaps add to the apparently waning public support Shelby seems to have. Even the Trumpster can't believe the audacity of making another such suspect hire.

Is this true "apparently waning public support?"

This KB thing is likely true.  I just heard that it is very important that an insider or pro-SFT figure gets this position because of some untoward dealings this foundation may have with Dvorak & Hanbury, Esqs.

Out here in the land of taxpayers, the Research Foundation mess looks an awful lot like what the private sector calls money laundering. The enabling legistlation behind it makes it legal. And when there's a way to move money from the public coffers into private accounts or for corporations to get inflated tax breaks, things can get crooked in a hurry. That's why its important to have lawyers.

It is arguable that in science today, lawyers are more important than hunchbacks, er, technicians.

Questions: who wrote this great song?  who sings it?  how can I find a copy?

Will someone who isn't faculty/staff PLEASE alert RIch Campbell or Kevin Walters about these outrageous latest examples of nepotism, Dana Thames/daughter and SACS commmittee and now this with Ken Malone's spouse heading up ORSP?  Please, and while you are emailing, send all to SACS.  This is too much.  Who could make this stuff up?  Here we are on the edge of probation and all this stuff is going on.  WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?  Especially with this latest glowing editorial from HA about the "easily fixed" ONE itty bitty problem that put us on probation?  Public is now probably wondering why SACS is picking on USM, after all it appears to be just a matter of USM failing to "list" all of our CE and CICE courses and submitting student evaluations.  Once again, I fear that Shelboo and his lackeys are going to somehow slip through this mess smelling like Lysol. Actually they may be smarter than we are, nothing has brought them down so far.  I guess I know what they are thinking.  "I am ten feet tall and bullet proof."

Hey Cleo, One correction: it's not ORSP that Kelli Booth is rumored to be heading; it's the Research Foundation, which allows the slimy but apparently legal process of private gain through public funding. It is through this operation, and others like it, that Shelboo proposes to make millionaires from among us lowly underpaid professors. Get tax dollars and get rich! I don't care if it is legal, it's appalling.

For quite some time USM has seemed to be able to find a "parking place" for some spouses of its higher administration. This is not a new phenenomon. I always assumed that those appointments were structured in some way as to avoid direct spousal supervision or in some other way that would avoid suspicions of nepotism.

The song is called "Mississippi" & was written by Bob Dylan. It is on his last studio CD "Love & Theft," which was coincidentally released on 9-11-01.

Before Dylan released it, the song was given exclusively to Sheryl Crow, who recorded it with a slightly different arrangement for "The Globe Sessions" (circa 1999). Crow also has released a live version on an EP of a show in Toronto about that time. Crow used slightly different lyrics, as I don't think she was all that hot about sleeping in Rosie's bed.

Those are the only "legit" recordings of the song that I know of.

You should be able to pick up "Love & Theft" at any reputable music store. If you haven't listened to Dylan since the '60s, it is a real eye-opener.

Oh they blew THOSE "suspicions" long ago (from the minute Thames stepped into office he began his reign of terror by doing daughter Dana a "special favor"). And now, they are blatantly flaunting them These people are despicable. Utterly without any type of moral safety net.

Oh, you mean their stake in Noetic?

Shaft, make that favors. Miss Dana had her knickers all riled up over more than one faculty member at that point. Thank goodness, she had Daddy there to help paint them both into a nepotistic corner.
