Today's HA confirms that there will be no raises this year. One has to wonder if this will put an end to the Thames administration Midas myth. The sole rationale for that administration was to bring in lots of money to improve the university. Now our new president has discovered that the cupboard is bare. Food services, the textbook store, and the bookstore have been sold largely for one time money. The golf course is no longer operational. Enrollment has fallen behind the growth at State and Ole Miss requiring cuts from the IHL. Sadly, our president has to deal with the legacy of an administration built on smoke and mirrors.
Physical Plant management will soon be sold out for more "one time money." The rest of the PP will soon follow--as Myron Henry put it, "If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it must be a duck.."
Morale in the PP is LOW. This cannot be overemphasized.
Other operations, like the Families First Children's Center, are being closed.
What's next? Our beloved University is indeed in dire straits, and I'm not sure we have the people in place to right the ship.
