This is just the beginning, Man. Keep watching and Babbs' point will become abundantly clear.

Yeah, Man. I'm outa here is right on the money. If things at USM proceed as usual, Babb's list will grow and grow and grow. Man, you must be new to this board. Otherwise you'd have seen the Babbs list grow and grow and grow this past year.
I will greatly miss my LAB hallmate directly opposite, Dr. Luz Marina Escobar of Foreign Languages, who is leaving after this semester. Luz lived up to her name (Spanish, "light"); she was always friendly and encouraging. She is leaving with her husband (CEP?) who has accepted a very good job in the Middle East. Sorry that I'm blanking on his name and position. I've just finished most of the end of the semester work and can't retrieve his name from the memory banks. Maybe someone can help with the rest of the information.
Linda Goff, Associate Professor, Speech Communication (retirement)
Tim Hudson, Provost (Univ. of Houston, Victoria)
Escobar's husband is Warren Ortloff, Assistant Professor, Educational Leadership. He left for a job in the Middle East over the summer. He may be on Babbs' pre-August list. Maybe Hudson was also on last year's list.

TheMan, TheProblem is when you look at the past few years too many people have left USM. You can tell when you have a forest fire by all of the animals running in one direction away from the fire. You don't even need to see the smoke. Part of the cause of the SACS probation is that USM is losing its academic memory because so many have left. Realize that the people leaving are producing quality work.
Maybe new posters would have a better understanding if Babbs would repost her list from last year -- then everyone could see how the numbers add up quickly.
Last year I thought it odd that department chairs, deans, or their designates did not provide Babbs with orderly and updated information about departures.

That might be difficult, as there are nearly 50 different threads. To see them, go to the second drop-down menu at the bottom of the page displaying threads and change "Sorted by" from "Last Modified" to "Started By." Then go to page 6 or 7 (or maybe 8) and read and read and read and read.
Could the webmaster set up some kind of link to the stories on USM departures?
And let's not forget the other psychology folks - Dan Randolph just retired after a long career at USM, and Rosamond Myers (Intership DIrector at the Counseling Center) left a couple of months ago.

Dan, I beleive, will still be involved in the MEd programs in that college on a part time basis after the usual required hiatus.
Is there a way to mark which ones left because of the administration?
The reason I ask is because Nix left for a better football opportunity not because of what Thames has done and the same goes for Scherer and Warner who were both fired.

Do we have a good headcount of the number of faculty, their rank, # adjuncts, etc.? How many faculty are there now? I heard there was a hiring freeze of sorts, but only in some departments and schools????? Sounds typical of USM if so."
Just Wait,
A good headcount is worth compiling. Administrations like to exaggerate the number of faculty... and USM's has padded the numbers shamelessly under Thames.

Well, Babbs' compilation from "last year" listed Coaches along with Faculty and Staff departures, and most of us realize that the "volatility" of the coaching market is usually driven more by economics than by university administrations (with the obvious exception of when a head coach of any sport is fired).
I heard from some physics faculty that last week they were interviewing two candidates for their Chair position. Just heard today that both candidates were offered the position in turn and both turned it down. I wasn't told the reasons, but SACS may be part of it. So besides people leaving we have hiring problems. Any other reports of similar difficulties would be appreciated.
Why was Rudy Sirochman denied tenure and promotion. Word has it that he passed with flying colors through the dept. and then there was a college hold up - the UAC destroyed him. Does anyone know? He's now happy at Georgia State and has moved on, but he was a casualty.
Anyone know if Marcus Nause is still with USM? I also heard that Zantow, Daniel and Rambo were all leaving from USMGC. Is this true? What happened with Mark Goodman?

I heard similar stories. He heard he passed the department and college committees, but not the dean. Haven't heard what hapened at the UAC level. Glad to hear he is doing well. That seems to be what happens to all who escape USM, stalag/EXIT 13.
