I attended my new faculty orientation at the Biloxi branch of Tulane's University College today, and I came away very favorably impressed. The facility is a little over two years old, so everything looks new. The carpeted classrooms are very well appointed with room for about 20 students. The audio visual and computer facilities are well beyond my Luddite capabilities, but many of my former colleagues and Invictus would drool over them. Classrooms have wireless capability, cable TV, VCR, available computer projectors, available laptops, something called a "smart board" that makes your projected computer image work like a touch screen, and nice white marking boards. Students and faculty have full access to the main Tulane library via internet and courier service. Reserve materials can be scanned for internet access. There is also interactive software ("Blackboard") for course materials, practice tests, and email access to the students using one address. As my former colleagues know, most of this fancy stuff is lost on me. I'm a chalk board, stand up kind of guy.

The staff handles advising and textbook orders, and they seem really dedicated to growing the program. I had emailed in a textbook selection for my Sociology of the Family course a few weeks ago, but hadn't heard back. As I left the briefing, I was handed a brand new, shrink wrapped copy of the book. I didn't really need it, but I was impressed that someone went to the trouble of getting me a desk copy.

Having a college "campus" in a mall seems weird until you think about it. They have excellent well-lighted parking, a food court with lots of options, a book store open until 9:00, and a security service. A lot of thought has gone into the concept. It's also interesting that they pay about twice as much per course as the junior college or USM. That should give them first pick of adjuncts.

I'm looking forward to getting back into teaching again in January. I hope I still remember how.

Frank Glamser

Frank,

Where do I apply?  Surely they need some science taught.

Hi Ray,

I'm sure they would be very interested in someone with your experience and talent. A nice house on the river or bayou, a fishing boat, and a little teaching to keep you sharp could be a nice retirement.

Frank

Frank,

You sure know how to get to a guy from Louisiana.  You just had to mention the bayou and fishing to tease me.  Your description of the teaching facilities already had me dreaming.  I will just have to look into this dream retirement.

Thanks.

Ray

You don't know me, but glad to hear you are doing well, and thanks so much for the nice Thank You card you sent to me a couple of states away thanking me more my donation to your defense fund.  I admire the heck out of you. JL

Gary and I were very touched by the wonderful support we received from all over the United States from folks who, in many cases, did not know us. There is no way we could begin to adequately thank you and all those wonderful people. It was most humbling to hear, time and again, "You are in our prayers." While my departure from the university was not pleasant, I have nothing but the utmost respect and heartfelt gratitude for the many caring faculty, students, staff, alumni, and local people who stood buy us. I have never felt such a sense of community in my adult life. I consider myself very fortunate, even blessed to have had that bittersweet experience.

Dear Frank,

VERY glad to know that things are working out so well for you!  Although what happened to you and Gary was and remains a tragedy, it would have been far worse if you both had not landed on your feet so quickly.  It gives me a special pleasure to know that Shelby was not able to keep two such good men down for very long at all.  When the history of this whole catastrophic reign is written, you two will be heroes and his name will be (already is) mud.  And that is true, by the way, not only in Hattiesburg but around the country and indeed the world.

Take good care! -- Bob

Godspeed Frank Glamser. You were brave, and you prevailed over Shelby Thames.  Many of us are so proud of you. Tulane is lucky to get you.

(boomer sooner)

Frank,

Thanks for the update, and wishing you the best.  Also, please give my (our?) best to Eva, who has to be one of the 'unsung heroes' in your recent travails.

"Big sting"  and "still a target."  I thought this matter had been settled. What does this mean?  Please explain.

A condition of their settlement was Frank and Gary can't criticize the Thames administration.  But there is no need for that.  If they wanted to criticize, they would have to get in line behind faculty, students, staff, IHL Board, SACS, the public, etc. etc..

Frank's quote certainly didn't look like a criticism of anything to me. It was just a report of what he is doing. And Gary is so far away he probably never thinks of USM.

Glamser is happy. Is that a criticism of Thames?  Quit threatening a person who DESERVES to be happy. Was that part of the "deal" - Glamser must hate himself over questioning the credentials of someone who PROVED to be a liar.  Allow Frank some happiness and quit the threats. The power of public opinion has turned and those of us who know the Unspun story won't be quiet. SFT, bye, bye, bye.

Gary probably doesn't even think about USM except in his nightmares.

I am skeptical about messages from anyone who has to use copious exclamation points and doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're."  The trolls are on vacation, with nothing but time on their hands.

No one takes pot shots at either Glamser or Stringer on this board. No one.  And, there are others who have proven themselves to be immune tothe ugly slings and arrows of those who are of a clueless and malicious mode. Shelby has his IHL. Glamser and Stringer have their Message Board. Beware, trolls. We'll make mincemeat out of you.

Thanks to the way GS & FG were abused, "freedom of speech" will never again be abridged on the USM campus again. Not now. Not ever. Those two have given this university the ultimate gift, albeit it a gift for which they paid the ultimate sacrifice.

I once posted as "WASP" on FireShelby.  I made a  "your" and "you're" typo once in an e-mail and I am guilty of copious exclamation point usage.  However, I did not post the above - think I'm being framed.

Too late.

You're already one of the Usual Suspects.  Good thing this is an anonymous board.  Since nobody knew who you were in the first place, nobody knows who you are now.

Just take it easy next time, and watch how you use those exclamation points.  Dang things don't grow on trees, you know.

Overly Vigilant, I think I can relate to how you feel. There was a brief period of time at USM when I would empty all of my discarded personal papers from my office trash basket into a plastic bag and see that they were shredded or otherwise destroyed. My experience with the USM Troica at that time fully warranted that behavior. Monitoring faculty emails pales in comparison with what I experienced.

Shelb & company would be very eager to find FG or GS in some technical violation of the terms of the settlement so they could cut off the payments. Plus the Kentucky Three probably have some massive axes to grind, since they're off a really fat dole.

AD is still a very dangerous person & still holds a position in the Hattiesburg area that some folks regard as "influential." (Of course, many of us regard it as utterly superfluous & consider the whole ADP concept to be a massive misuse of public money. But nobody asks us...)

If I am not mistaken the public prohibition muzzle runs both ways.

And Papa Shelboo has already violated it in print many times.

Truth, would you not agree that the THamesmeister violated it in his first public announcement after the settlement?

Yep.  Once a weasel, always a weasel.
