January 16, 2004: a date to go down in infamy?

January 16, 2004 is the date of the second SACS letter. January 16, 2004 is also the date that WDAM broke the story about the AAUP investigation. A few days later (just about the time the SACS letter would have arrived) was the infamous press confidence challenging anyone questioning the credentials. It was then that a series of actions against Stringer and Glamser began, continuing through April and consuming many hours and much energy. As I recall, it was in early March that provost Hudson expressed some concern about the attempted firing of those two professors. If I recall correctly, provost Hudson was immediately ostracized from then on until he left in late summer. It is not hard to believe that the SACS letter might have been ignored while actions proceeded against the two faculty members involved in the credentials invesgitation.

"Taking Care of Business" was definitely not the name of the song they were singing in that big dome-shaped Southern mansion.
