Letter in the HA from our ole buddy Jack. Unfortunately I totally agree with him. I just HATE it when that happens.

(It was just about the okay-ness of saying "merry Christmas" and acknowledging that we are having Christmas and not HanaKwanzRamaMas.)

BTW my own personal princess got a tiara for Hanakuh from one grandma and something else pretty for Christmas from me, so I'm allowed to talk.

While I agree with the former Risk Manager's thesis,  the cynical lobe of my brain can't help but think his letter is nothing more than shameless pandering,  and free advertising for his law practice.  Hanbury gets his name printed in the only paper in town (at no cost) advocating a popular bible-belt position on Christmas tradition.  Bah, Humbug!

I hate to get distracted, but . . .

I agree it is okay to say Merry Christmas; and, indeed, we are having Christmas.

BUT, it is also a time when some folks ceebrate a lot of other holidays, and we should not believe that "ours" is somehow better or more important than "theirs."

For that matter, the winter solstice was celebrated long before any of the others, including ours.

We are dancing awfully close to letting this turn into a religious discussion.  Do we really want to do that?

No! Religion is what divides people, besides politics, of course.  Let's stay on topic.

Notice how easy it was for Hanbury to side track us again?

I was not trying to get anyone off track. Possibly I failed to make my point, which was that I found it MADDENING to have to agree with JH about ANYTHING. As my own family is religiously diverse, I thought I could make the comment.

"O.T." means "Off Topic" which is a warning to readers that the subject is usually frivolous and irrelevant. It was just a little tongue in cheek divertissment.
