The University of Southern Mississippi, which ranks 19th on the list, will get $16.5 million in earmarks this year, credits a two-year-old, $2 million grant that funded a forensics lab with helping the department win about $500,000 a year in competitive funding. Enrollment in the forensic science program has increased from around 50 before the grant to about 125 now." __________________
