I accessed the site and this came from the first thread I read:
"If, in fact, Thames resigns or is fired by the college board as a result of the accreditation problem (or any of his other problems) you'd likely see a professor-friendly, academic-crusading President appointed in his place who would take a lot of emphasis off athletics and put it back into academics."

But, I see you chose to ingore this comment:
Frankly, I am beyond being disgusted with the present administration and demand that their be a house cleaning. On balance, after noting what our president has accomplished since he took over, it is obvious he done nothing since he was installed but damage my university.
I have two degrees from USM and am proud of them. I will continue to be proud of them and support my University, finacially and otherwise. But something needs to be done immediately. If USM were a business, heads would roll over night.
I spent a little time on Eagle Talk last evening and I believe it is a good gauge of public opinion. Whereas many of our earlier flashpoints did not strike a chord with alumni and friends, this one does. It hits them directly in their pocketbooks and their pride - they do not want to see their university lose accreditation. That's why now is the time to channel their outrage and solicit their support.
Full court press...now.
Shelby Thames failed in this role - time to stop propping him up.
I am encouraged that many eagletalk posters are questioning the administration now. It has taken them a while, but they are beginning to see that USM can be seriously damaged by this administration.
I believe that the public can get its collective arms around this issue. Right or wrong, university supporters argued away all the previous issues as being internal university problems - ones that could be fixed by a "take-charge" president who would whip those faculty into line. This one strikes at the heart of what they care about - their credentials, their livelihood, their reputations. By all measures, a university fails when it is in danger of losing its accreditation - they understand that.
An important message now is that despite what the Spin Mistress and Shelby say to the press, this is not a paperwork issue and he is not competent to fix it. Time to call in the experts...the academic experts.
Thames says the problem is not with performance but how the school reports it's (sic)performance to the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges.

There have always been folks at EagleTalk who opposed the Thames presidency. I can recall discussions when he was hired that got pretty heated. There were heated threads during the Glamser-Stringer debacle. But up until now, the pro-Thames faction had been able to shout down those who suggested that USM was not being run properly. The tables have turned.
BTW, an ET member posted a photo of a "Christmas necktie" for Shelby. I'll leave it to your imagination (or web surfing), but suffice to say it involved a knot that Boy Scouts are not required to learn.

Indeed the tables have turned. Just a few short months ago, ET members were calling for physical beatings of "liberal" professors. Glad that they have turned their wolf-pack mentality on the true culprit finally.

With representatives/self-proclaimed leaders like this, I cannot imagine why it took us so long to empathize.

Yep, Joe, it's a real shame the "us vs. them" mentality has set in, separating the eagletalkers from the posters on this board, as if the athletic supporters (sorry!) did not have a stake in the academic reputation of USM. Of course, anybody that has been reading this board for long knows that a lot of us have supported USM athletics for a long time, too.
I think maybe Catfish Eagle set a few people on edge with his expressed fear that a new president might emphasize academics over athletics. I just hope Catfish realizes how those schools that are recruiting against USM will use this against us. The players may not care much about accreditation, but the recruiters will make sure the players' mommas know.

When Eagle Talkers called for physical beatings of "liberal" professors back in the spring, I knew then that it was time for me to stop reading ET (which I did). You don't have to like my opinions to agree with us that SFT needs to go. If Bobby Chain can join us, then you can, too!
