This was posted by Sympathizer on the fixed address thread at the top of this page. If you can't get the IHL address from their website it can probably be obtained with this information:

CRUCIAL: IHL CONTACT INFO

Email:   Ms. Suzanne Sharpe, Chief of Staff
            Phone: (601) 432-6661

ssharpe@ihl.state.ms.us

Thanks. What's needed is home addresses because I suspect that some of last spring's mail to their board addresses never was read.

My letter, just sent off...

I wrote to you last spring to express my concern about the unrest at the University of Southern Mississippi.  At the time, I requested that you demand that President Thames get his house in order.  I suggested removal of members of his inner council and indicated that this action would result in his getting better advice and making better decisions.  Although it was important for those individuals to go, there has been no meaningful change for the better on the part of Dr. Thames.  In fact, with the recent ratings drop and accreditation news, a bad situation has become deplorable.  I now ask you to remove this failed president from office.

As I indicated in my last letter, I am a retired executive out of a high technology industry.  I am an Eagle Club member, a donor, and an advisor to the university.  Having been associated with academic administration for two decades, I speak with knowledge and expertise about university/industry collaboration.  Dr. Thames has been a terrible disappointment to all of us who had hoped to see innovative leadership.  He is not capable of running a university because he has abandoned the basic principles of the Academy.  In his quest to run the university “like a business” he has ignored the business of running a university.   All he has done is to recklessly waste resources, alienate faculty, deceive friends and lower the value of the university's intellectual and reputational capital.  Some 15,000 current students, their parents, spouses, and children as well tens of thousands of alumni deserve better.

It is time, in fact it is past time, to bring in a professional interim administrator from the outside to lead the University of Southern Mississippi.   Decisive action on your part, as those entrusted to uphold the academic integrity of this state, must be taken now.

We still need some help on this. We need the woman from Laurel ( Robinson?), the guy from the coast (Ed __?), and two more and the names of the four who went off in May. We also need the name of the new commissioner.

Good line, Former Exec.  Really good!

The whole letter is well written, but that one sentence sums it up for me.

Kick!

Bored and frustrated with holiday shopping? Bloated with too much holiday food? Bummed out contemplating the visit with the in-laws?  Take a break and write a letter to the IHL Board members. As has been recently pointed out on another thread, short and concise letters, emphasizing the probation issue and omitting the Glamser-Stringer debacle, are more likely to have an impact. You can think of your letter a holiday present to all the concerned people on this message board who care about USM's future. That's going to be my motivation as I do my letters, so happy holidays to all of you.
