The Citation de la Semaine selection committee is pleased to present this week's HONORABLE MENTION citations to two of the message board's most august posters: Stephen Judd and Robert Campbell. Their comments serve as a reminder of just how important the AAUP principle of academic freedom is to academic life on the campuses of American colleges and universities:
STEPHEN JUDD: "To this day, the exile of F&G from campus is still treated by the HA as an almost ordinary event, about on the par of removing a hangnail. People outside the academy are simply incapable of understanding how such losses rip huge holes in the fabric of our intellectual life."
ROBERT CAMPBELL: ". . . the mass media haven't a clue what firing senior professors for criticizing the administration will do to a university."
This week's winner is another of the message board's most august posters: Invictus. Either of the following posts would have earned him the distinction of being this week's WINNER:
INVICTUS: "The number one way to improve the 'economy' in Mississippi is to fully fund education & begin building a culture that values education." [Thank you, WIFFM, for this nomination].
Invictus: "some of us actually care about the university. Not what the current USM administration tells us is 'caring' for the university, but an actual vision of what a university can & should be."

Thank you. Thank you. I'd like to extend my special thanks to my IT Director/Provost/Dean/Registrar, the elves in the Invictus colocated computer center, my Risk Manager, myRoad Manager, Stage Crew & the great folks at Columbia Records...
That said, I will modestly offer that Stephen & Robert's quotes were easily as good as my own. Their statements remind us why this board community originated & why WE MUST NEVER FORGET OR FORGIVE WHAT HAPPENED TO DR. STRINGER & DR. GLAMSER, not until the University of Southern Mississippi is returned to its rightful place in the worldwide culture of higher education.

In his "thank you" post, Invictus has put himself in the running AGAIN (for next week's award). The last sentence is definitely a winner. This I-guy can sure spin a phrase, can't he?
#1 Groupie (still sore because she didn't get the ADP job)
