I don't refer to any supposed "deal" between the Faculty Senate and Shelby Thames back in June. Reporter and Stephen Judd have convinced me that I was barking up the wrong tree on that one.
Nice work Bob. I think you have captured the essential sotry well.
I had not really paid attention to McWorter's comment earlier about being sorry they didn't get a chance to explain to Clyde . . . makes it sound like he was pretty much on the outside of the decision doesn't it?
It was interesting to watch the "leaks" over the past month. Folks I talked to who seemed close to the ADP said that the leaks were not coming from there. Speculation was the Shelby and Lisa M were doing the leaking . . . .
Here is another one for you: Lee Jarrel Davis declaring his run for mayor by declaring his loyalty to all things USM and attacking Mayor Dupree FROM THE STEPS OF THE USM ADMINISTRATION BUILDING (the famous "Dome")
The University has allowed itself very visibly to either take sides or has willingly allowed itself to be coopted into Davis' campaign. There are some pretty PO'd folks here on that one.

I am not surprised that Lisa/Shelby wanted to come out ahead of the announcement with their own "leak" to the media but I can assure you that despite Paige's secrecy agreement there were multiple leaks out of the ADP.

That is very interesting. I wish that information could go to the HA -- they don't seem to know that or be able to verify it.

Plausible deniability would come into play thus preventing that. When someone on the ADP says: "Angie certainly has a lot of support" and someone else says "Angie's connections are very strong" and a 3rd person says "You know where the power lies in this town" you tell me. And then there's body language... Is that confirmation before the fact? Arguably, it's not but you know deep down that it is. My point is that it was out there in the community from multiple sources. Let's be honest, it's been speculated since before the hearings that the ADP job description was designed with Angie in mind. By the time that the job was open it was clear that she could not become the next USM president so the people who put her in power in the first place needed to find a safe landing where she could accomplish the same goals. I believe Halstead was not the first choice and never had a chance to be successful (that, by the way, is not an endorsement of him); he was simply a place & time filler until the heat came off Angie. There is a good deal of emphasis on Angie's salary and the differential between the two jobs. Given the ADP contract that she held while at the university and the reciprocal agreement that she probably will have now, the $10K is likely insignificant - makes for great PR though - taking a pay cut and all... Is there a link to the USM patent commercialization interest? Is the family law firm involved in that? That would make for a better story.
From the HA article: Mitch Stennett, director of the Economic Development Authority of Jones County, called Dvorak's speech similar to President Bush's presidential speech in that it was focused on uniting people in the wake of controversy.

Uniting people behind WHAT, for Heaven's sake? Dishonesty? Deception? STUPIDITY???

I'm cynical enough to imagine that AD's vision for the ADP could be to remake the "Area Development Partnership" into "Angie D's Profiteers."
