I don't know Dr. Cotten, other than by reputation, but what do you guys think of him as a potential replacement for Dr. Potter?

I'm proud to know the man and believe he would be excellent.

Cotton would make a fine replacement, as well as Jim Hollllandsworth, but that will never happen.

Absolutely. Either one would do an extraordinary job. You guys can only wish.

I agree that Don Cotten would be excellent in that position, but I also agree with GH & GGG that it is not likely to happen.

I would have no problem what so ever with Dr Cotton heading up th IHL. I would have no problem with anyone who cares deeply for Southern Miss heading up the IHL. I do think that Dr. Cotten's closeness to the situation at Southern Miss will prevent his consideration.

In my opinion, if the IHL members can't keep their preferences and biases for their own schools (e.g., their alma maters) in check, the entire system should be purged by the Legislature and a new system prohibiting anybody with an individual bias toward a particular public institution from serving. Each member of the IHL board is supposed to serve all of Mississippi's public universities, not just USM, Ole Miss, State, etc. This business of having specific board members representing a particular school makes no sense at all. There's lots of capable people in Mississippi with no personal connection to any particular public institution. I know that this is not a popular view, but what Mississippi has at the present time is not working. IHL appointments should be free of institutional politics.
