I was not suprised the Bond Issue failed. When Mayor Fairly foundout that there was no kickback in the Bond Issue he gathered his sheep and it was over. Throw in many of you guys who think that any kind of progress will be seen as a win for SFT and the State and UMiss folks who will never support anything remotly good for USM, and it never had a chance.
Now, on to the good stuff. Living and Working here in Richmond, you get to see a lot of card carying DNC members. It's like being trapped in the Liberal Arts Building with Kate Green and Daniel Capper. But, today nice. Bush soundly trounced Kerry, Tom Dachele was sent packing and the GOP picked up House and Senate seats, and now has truely become the populist party in American. I would venture to say that the GOP now has a national mandate. Largest number of popular vote in American History, more votes that Reagan, that's amazing.
I am proud the American people didn't bow to terrorist threats if Bush was re-elected. I have really enjoyed walking around my office today with my W'04 putton on my shirt and razzed some of the most liberal of my co-workers almost to the point of depression. Hey I am not all bad, Ken who is in the office across the hall, I even talked him down off the ledge after the concession speech.
I hope you guys have had as much fun celebrating the bond defeat as I have the Kerry defeat.

Seeker,
I have been so proud, and so pleased, that this post-election-day message board has been been free of politically-oriented messages - until I saw yours. The posters are to be commended for keeping the board free of Republican or Democratic barbs. Please, Seeker, whatever your political inclinations - let it rest.

That's because the loser never talks about his defeat. Let me guess, did you wasted a vote yesterday?
It's generally known that I am a Republican, but I do not believe in gloating or teasing. We ought to be grateful that we live in a country where our government is selected by pointing pencils and not guns. I am also grateful to Sen. Kerry for the gracious and truly patriotic choice he made today to spare us a protracted post-election upheaval. Seeker, as my Mama always says, "be the bigger person."

I agree completely. Seeker is young and sometimes impetuous. He doesn't yet know that gloating is poor form, and injecting politics into this board is inappropriate. He will learn.

Actually, Seeker is older yet still impetuous. I'll refrain from injecting my own politics into the board, but will remind Seeker that 49% of Americans voted for the other guy. Take your devisive politicking somewhere else, Seeker.
For all those on social security that voted for Bush: enjoy your cat food and squallor as the SSA is privatized -- you get the government you deserve.
For all the student who didn't vote: hope you enjoy dying as a draftee in Iraq, Iran, or wherever the United States of Halliburton cares to send you -- you get the government you deserve.
For all those of foreign extraction and people of color: good luck under the patriot act and patriot II. You get the government you deserve.
For those who lecture about any mistakes the administration may make: enjoy finding that new job as "academic freedom" is tossed away and "post-tenure review" with less than 50% retention rate becomes the norm. You get the government you deserve.
Miles, would that be the same Czech Republic brought to you in part by the efforts and determination of Ronald Reagan?
Seriously, I had the knock-down drag out post-election conversation last night with my son, who lives on the West Coast and is a true blue liberal. I am much prouder of his passion, conviction, and intelligence than I am concerned about our disagreement on specific issues. I noted that he has been able to vote in four Presidential elections. Two times his guy won, two times my guy won. Next time it's wide open. That's what it's all about.

Me, I'm getting Czech citizenship."
You left out the part about plague and locusts. Readjust your tinfoil hat for better reception.

I believe that tinfoil hat is perfectly positioned for reception from the leftist spin machine. The poster seems to be channeling Michael Moore, or at least parroting the same vitriolic pap.
LV (not LVN), perhaps you might want to adjust your own hat...I'm assuming yours is a right-leaning hat that picks up all sorts of fear-mongering pap and drivel from the "right" side of the fence (i.e. Alan Keyes, Jerry Falwell, et. al).
(Can't help myself, fellow board post-ers. Gotta take up for the progressive liberals!)

Right on PC or CP. True conservatives have no voice in the White House anymore.

Morning Truth,
Welcome back. You've been missed. I'm just wearing my USM ball cap today, and it isn't picking up much in the way of signals. As a matter of fact, I'm a proudly independent Libertarian, with equal disdain for loonies on the fringe left and the fringe right, such as those you mention. I'd also suggest that Clinton was no liberal, and Bush is no conservative. Aside from pandering to different special interest groups, there's little difference between the two major political parties, and sadly, the few honorable men on the national political stage, such as Joe Lieberman and John McCain, are too "honest" to ever become president. Very sad, very sad indeed.
I do have particular contempt for Moore and his hysterical demagogery, which if anything, helped Bush to win re-election. I have no quarrel with "progressive liberals" but Michael Moore certainly ain't one of 'em.

LV, glad to see my assumptions were wrong. Seeker's original post threw my own cap for a loop. Good to see you in the "middle" with the majority of us.

<CUES UP OLD VINYL>
I just want to make it perfectly clear that Bob Dylan did not write "Stuck in the Middle With You," even though it has a title vaguely similar to "(Memphis Blues Again)" & does contain a few references to fools to the left, jokers to the right.
Forget the tin-foil hats. Here are the plans for the real deal. Now, I'm off to chat with Elvis...
Sorry, I didn't know that Reagan was to thank for the Czech Republic. I had assumed that it was Vaclav Havel, but thanks for re-educating me.
To a large degree, the progressives have tried to hold the moral high ground, and not indulge in the kind of attacks that the neocons have implemented: (Swiftboat, the butchering of McCain's image in South Carolina...).
I thought that we had done that on this board. We were all united in the belief that SFT must go, and we would put politics aside.
Leave it to Seeker to go for the low road.
Personally, I'm tired of real issues being ignored for garbage like gay marriage.
As for politics, I believed Kerry was the worst choice, but I also believe that Bush is the. worst. ever. Too bad Kucinich doesn't have "the look". That's the same reason why Hillary won't be elected, nor Obama. States like Mississippi are not going to vote for anybody but a white male.
Sorry about the missing bold tag, and the bad link.
This is what scares me the most (and why it is NOT a good day)...people like this guy and Anne Coulter and anyone who is calling for physical harm against liberals. Do you see any progressives calling for the brutalizations of neocons? I think not. Which is exactly why I'm a progressive and not a neocon.

Progressive is a politically correct way to say socialist. I bet you're one of those Castro sympathizers who would just as soon let the UN and Kofi Anan direct US foreign policy aren't you?

And "neocon" is a politically correct way to say "fascist." Go back under your rock in VA, Seeker.
PS--Last time I checked, one of our very few coalition allies, Great Britain, was giving out free healthcare to all of their citizens. Why don't you call up Tony Blair and set him straight?

Hey if Great Britian wants to give away sub-standard, second rate health care to it's citizens fine by me. My tax dollars aren't paying for it, so why should I care.

Seeker,
This is something I'm actually competent to talk about. Medicine is my field, and I have spent a good deal of time in the United Kingdom and in Canada. I have immediate family members living in Canada and England, and I visit there often. Be assured that the care received in those countries is neither sub-standard nor second rate. Their medical schools are every bit as good as those in the states, and I speak with first hand knowledge, having attended a "top-10" US medical school. High-tech medical facilities are not as widely available as in the U.S., and with respect to certain elective surgeries, access can be dicey, resulting in waiting lists. Their healthcare delivery system isn't perfect, but they're trying. And, to pay for their "free" healthcare, taxes are very high, but that's a social-philosophical topic unsuitable for this forum. Whether or not you subscribe to the idea that healthcare should be available to everyone is a legitimate topic for debate, but you should disabuse yourself of the notion that medical care in the UK is inferior in any way.

Why is Castro pure evil, yet Hu Jintao leads a 'most favored nation'? Let me see...the Maoist totalitarianism practiced by China is OK, but the socialism practiced in Cuba is not.
I'm beginning to think that the Halliburton cronies are reminding me of Fulgencio Batista. Where's Che when you need him?
