I dunno about USM, but if I were to make a political contribution using my work address, my boss would be all over me like a fly on flypaper, regardless of whether he agreed with my politics...
For that matter, the entry cited above reads as if the contribution came from USM & Mader, Lisa S Ms. was the person who tendered it.
Whatever, I think this little jewel needs to fall into the hands of every Democrat currently sitting in the Mississippi legislature.
Speaking as a Republican, this transaction strikes me as being exceedingly inappropriate. As the PCCP notes, one's personal politics do not belong in the workplace, particularly if one is a public employee.
I forgot to add that since the contribution went to the Republican CONGRESSIONAL Committee, Gene Taylor's office might be quite interested in seeing it, because Ms. Mader essentially contributed to Mike Lott's campaign under the banner of the University.
Once again Mader messes up the Math -- is what she did legal? Who was she representing? If it was a personal contribution, surely she would have used a personal address and information. I'm with See More and Emma - Blame Hudson!!

Can someone please make the link http://www.tray.com/fecinfo/ HOT so we can check this information?
After reviewing the link, it looks to me that "University of Southern Mississippi" is simply listed as Ms. Mader's employer on that website, same as several others are listed as "self employed" & Michael Marks is listed as Hattiesburg Public Schools.
Of course, I dunno if one has to list one's employer when contributing... Maybe a legal beagle around here knows.
P.S. What is the limit on campaign contributions? Or is there essentially no limit if one splits across related PACs?
Thanks for that clarification, Invictus. I retract my previous statement, and apologize for getting drawn into more FUD without checking the facts. Lord knows, we have enough real stuff to worry about without chasing phantoms. Speaking of phantoms -- what happened to Judge Cooley? I do miss him.

I think stinky might be right on target with this one. As I recall, many months ago the USM post office asked boxholders to inform their correspondants of a slightly different way of addressing mail to USM P.O. boxes. I don't recall the specifics, but it seems that the phrase "University of Southern Mississippi" was to take the place of "Southern Station" - or something like that. If that is the case, then stinky's hypothesis is likely to be correct.

Well, in my time in Hattiesburg, the 'official address' changed from:

Assuming you are correct (and the information you posted matches my recollection), even faculty or staff members who maintain their own personal P.O. Box at the Hub have been instructed to include USM as part of the address (i.e., use "USM" rather than "Southern Station" as it had been in the past. Assuming that the information you provided is correct (and I do believe you are correct), this particular concern should be laid to rest, shouldn't it?
i'm looking at the official memo dated december 14th, 2003. the address change was required by both the US postal service and the office of emergency management.
