PC Agenda
Permalink Closed

Posters on the "Losing Steam" thread were asking questions about the PUC and activities on campus. The tentative agenda for the next PC meeting is below.

Item 2a is in connection to concerns raised last meeting, by Myron Henry and others, about the proposed Affirmative Action reorganization under human resources. Item 2b is on the agenda because of the credibility questions, raised by Ray Folse and others, concerning PR statements about Economic Development. (This board provided valuable information about ED programs on the thread "PC &Economic Development” now on page 2.)

Item 2c is the organization chart requested by Faculty Senate during spring semester last year. Myron Henry has made the request again as a member of PC.

I not sure about item 4, but credibility issues were raised last meeting about the PR reports of reallocation of funds as “savings”.

Seems like it may be another interesting meeting.

Would somebody explain items 2d & 5?

Other than DJ Johnson reading the minutes, this looks like a Thames-Malone-Lassen dog-and-pony show.

Who's presenting the "lawsuit trend data"? (Something tells me it will be a demonstration that the number of lawsuits has declined under the Thames administration. In fact, I'm willing to bet a six pack of Steam on it... )

Invictus, this is a tentative agenda. The spaces are open for additions. Item 2 is SFT updating on issues previously discussed. IIRC the lawsuits data was mentioned during discussion moving AA, that is, would really be a saving if it resulted in more suits.

Maybe the next PC meeting will be the one that leads Thames to disband it...  If hard-hitting questions are asked, he's going to have trouble dealing with them.

HE's not going to be answering the tough questions...that's why his new chief advisors are going to be there...

Then every questioner needs to stress Thames' personal responsibility for the lies about the Economic Development program, the lies about savings from the reorganization of the colleges, etc.

Just to be sure, the lawsuit trend data is in reference to reorganizing AA, correct?  Its central premise is that reorganizing Aff Action will reduce lawsuits?  Huh?

Yes, educator, the trend data is in reference to reorganizing AA.
Your second statement isn't correct. The central premise on the part of the FACULTY was that reducing the image of AA will reduce it's effectiveness and result in more
lawsuits. This must be considered before you can estimate any "savings".

Thanks, Reporter. Gotcha. I appreciate the clarification -- I knew I was confused, but too brain befuddled to figure it out myself. What you've said now makes sense.  And, of course the faculty's argument makes too much sense to more than likely ever   Star 13 (at left Thames, Lord of the Prance) be seriously considered.

Word is that some are trying to get Post-Tenure Review on the PUC agenda in a "priority" position so that it will not tabled until next meeting.

I bet there will be a great deal of administrative support for changing that priority too!  Anything that will divert scrutiny from economic development as the strategic focus of the dome to something that will be pushed down the ranks, especially with an IHL meeting coming up.  The timing of this issue is suspect.  Shelby avoided the confrontation about Economic Development because of Ivan and my do it again because of the passion over Post-Tenure Review - maybe he's got a direct line (through his very own call center?) after all.

My understanding is that ED is not under attack by the PUC, but rather the PR about ED.
The issue raised was the credibility fo USM's PR. Now from your statements you imply there maybe discussion of ED as a focus. Do you have inside information about this?

The only thing under attack is this administration's credibility - the PR surrounding Economic Development provides one of the best platforms to scrutinize credibility.
