"HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The University of Southern Mississippis School of Nursing graduating class for December 2006 has achieved a 97.6 percent first-time pass rate on the national licensing test, the RN-NCLEX. The test is required for a nurse to become licensed." ...
"Last year, the yearly pass rate was 86.8 percent. The national pass rate of all students taking the exam averages 88 percent, Nugent said."
Wasn't the significant drop in the "pass rate" a matter of concern a couple of years ago, when there was wholesale exodus of the Nursing faculty? I seem to remember that USM formerly had the highest rate in the state, so is this a return to previous rates? If so, congratulations to the Nursing faculty for overcoming past problems.

That's some old-timey Mader Math going on...decimate a program and get the pass rates to drop, then herald any increase in pass rates in subsequent years as a wondrous thing! It's called "cooking the books," folks.
SFT was not mentioned once in the press release. So, let's just congratulate the students and faculty over at nursing for the fine job that they did getting their pass rate up so high. It's not always about Thames folks.
Congrats to our Nursing faculty, staff and especially the students...Great Job and it is wonderful to see them back on top! Great Days ahead for USM. Let's Retool and Rebuild. We can be a GREAT University. Nothing that time, cooperation, collaboration and money can't solve
I do not see how this is "another feather in SFT's cap"!
The feather belongs to the faculty, staff, and students in Nursing. CONGRATULATIONS Nursing!!
I agree with you and Bad, Southern Belle. This shouldn't be a "Feather in Shelby's Cap". I was anticipating the future P.R. that we will hear before and after SFT leaves office.
