One more time, the master orchestrator of creative mathematics has pulled one out of the hat. For the new stadium expansion, a "real business" money making proposition ;)  , the official numbers are: 34 Suites - 950 seats plus Club Level - 320 seats plus 1,900 Additional bleacher seats with concessions and rest rooms to yield a Total Additional Seats - 3,700.

Obviously this bodes well for those of us who don't like waiting to go to the loo, the the missing 530 seats could never be a mistake, the must have counted the number of the number of porcelin ones.

What kind of "Scientist" could tolerate an organization and command structure that has no control over numbers, facts or double checking both of these?

Only 320 Club level seats? WOW, that's a big drop down from a couple of years ago when they planned to add about 1,000 club level seats. I'm kinda surprised someone at the Hattiesburg American didn't catch that the numbers don't add up. At the paper I work at, not only am I expected to double-check my figures, but the managing editors checks them as well when he proof reads my work. That's just odd.

3,700 new seats. How much is this going to cost and what is the "income" (selling suites, whatever) from this going to be. I am still totally confused about this expansion. Will someone please explain?!

Here's the breakdown from SouthernMiss.com (the HA article left out the 530 club level seats being added elsewhere in the stadium).

I never understood the math for this expansion. $31 million for 3700 seats! 34 suites in the end zone; they will have the worst view in the house. Here is a link to a picture of the expansion:

This will cap off the stadium and prevent any future expansion, unless you want to tear down the athletic center. I guess the boosters realize that USM will never draw more than 35,000 to a game. To me, if I was a big money donor, I would want something more like this:

This seems like it would have more bang for the buck. Bring the stadium up to 40,000+, have luxury suites along the sidelines, and still be able to expand in the future.

Now for me, I would like to see USM do something like UCF:

$47 million for 45,000 seats (we will already be 66% of the way there in money). Over the next 10 years or so, tear MM Roberts down and build a new stadium where Mississippi Tank is. Move athletics to the edge of campus and build new academic and residential buildings in the open space:

Okay, this has been a slow day for me and I haven't had anything better to do than to play with google. If you want to see someone who really knows how to use Google SketchUp, look at the model of MM Roberts in Google earth done by USMAEC.

as a historical note.  i was told when i came here years ago that when the first football stadium expansion occurred, there was a proposal to build a new stadium out in lamar county somewhere--i believe where the van hook golf course used to be.  it was obviously rejected.
