Professor Judd says that President Saunders has been reading the board. I suspect she is too
busy to do so now, but just in case she is, I thought I'd start a thread with free advice for her.
Here's my advice for her: she should get herself the AAUP Red Book, if she doesn't already have it. She should study it daily. She should let herself be guided by its principles and support the efforts of the faculty to do so.

Although I've been gone from USM for several years now, I've been flirting with the idea of writing her a letter. Perhaps everyone who left should send her a card and wish her the best.
The scene in the dome would probably resemble the end of the movie, Miracle on 34th St., where the post office delivers the mail to the judge.

Hello Foot Soldier - so good to see you here again.  I have been quiet for a while myself, but wanted to pop back in during such an exciting and long awaited time, and it was good to see your post.  I do hope you and your family are all doing well.  Cheers!

Just in case Dr. Saunders does keep tabs on the USM Forum--No Quarter Message Board:

Dr. Saunders;

Please do no let the resignation of the CoB deans cause you any worry or dismay.  There have been many problems in CoB in the past few years.  I believe that faculty and staff on campus probably saw this coming for some time.

Please do not have second thoughts on your decision.  You are needed and wanted on campus.  You will provide campus with "a breath of fresh air" when you arrive in Hattiesburg.

I took some time last week to wait in line to personally shake Dr. Saunders' hand. I also told her that I predicted she would have a very LONG honeymoon at USM, since we are so ready for her breath of fresh air. I think she said she hoped so.

Think back on it for a minute. Fleming did have a honeymoon but ran afoul of local groups and even his own bosses (the IHL) pretty early on. Thames had no honeymoon at all, to say the least. Dr. Saunders should have a nice time getting adjusted to the university and its people, especially with the lovefest we are all generating. (and happy to do so!) We should all take advantage of that honeymoon time to meet with her and discuss what our feelings are. Not just concerns and problems, but also tell her what is going well and what we are proud of. Her day-long interview session brought lots of information to her ears but it was overwhelming. Be ready to invite her to your college or department to share details. This is a huge opportunity for all of us, and it comes to our doorstep on May 21!
