Just tried to open http://www.aaup-usm.org, and got a 'whois' search help page. Has the AAUP web page been 'hijacked,' or did somebody let the domain go un-renewed?

I've been having the same experience all morning. My "favorites" link to the activeboard here is all right; but my link to the AAUP-USM homepage gets me to whosis, or whatever it is. Curious.
I've been able to get to the aaup website front page on two different computers in the past hour and I'm a computer idot (although not THE original idot!)

I had no problem getting to the aaup web page. A little off topic, I was surfing the net and came across a webpage called AtlantaMafia.com see link below. This webpage is an Atlanta based booster club that follows the Golden Eagles Football Team. THEY had this aaup website linked!!!!!!!!!!!!! We may have friends in Atlanta.......
The USM AAUP web account expired 9/22. The person who paid the yearly fee last year isn't interested in paying it again. Amy Young has been contacted about this matter, but has not responded. If anyone else is interested in paying the yearly fee (~$40) to keep the website active, post here and we'll arrange a way for you to do that. If no one posts, then the website will "evaporate" soon.
I'm sure there are lots of people on this board willing to pay the fee, or we could pass the hat (in cyberspace) and that would cover it until next year.
But that this comes up at all concerns me a bit. Whas has happened to the AAUP? Are they meeting? Are they meeting in an undisclosed location?
Things have been way too quiet lately, and in my usual paranoid way, that makes me nervous. I know there was a hurricane, and people are teaching (unlike Roy Klumb, I know USM faculty work). But the calm is disturbing. USM isn't going quietly into that good night is it? Aren't we still raging?

Good questions all, soldier, but there is one blatent one that needs to be asked:
What's the point of having an AAUP-USM website if no one is going to update it?
I'll look at the main page again just to make sure - yep, it still says June 2004. Same articles, info pages, etc. All nearly 4 months old now.
I don't know who is supposed to be "in charge" of updating the site other than, perhaps, Amy Young, whose name appears near the top. But that is probably not the case . . . since when does the president of an organization, especially one as "large" as the AAUP-USM, become responsible for updating it's web page? This of course begs the question: Who is responsible for the web page?
I also realize (and understand) why it might not be updated during the summer months, when most professors are on vacation, sabbatical, research trips, etc. However, classes have now been meeting for several weeks, yet the web page remains the same. Are Amy Young and/or the other AAUP-USM officers aware of what is happening?
I sincerely hope that there is someone out there who can find answers to these questions. I think that the AAUP-USM is a necessary organization, especially at a time like this, and I would hate to see one of it's primary methods of communication cancelled due to apathy. However, even if the web site is saved, what good is it if no one takes care of it?
The person who established and kept up the AAUP website all last year was doing so as a favor to, and in support of, Frank Glamser and Gary Stringer, and has no formal affiliation with AAUP. The person gave Amy Young notice that s/he would no longer maintain the website after June 1, 2004 and got no response. Amy was told at that time that the site would no longer be updated and maintained, and was encouraged to find another person to do the webmastering.
I hope this helps explain the situation. The USM AAUP chapter seems to be non-functional as far as I can tell with regards to the website. This message board will remain up and running indefinitely.
I'm also getting the WHOIS screen now when I try to access the AAUP-USM page.
I hope the USM AAUP chapter members (I heard there were over 100 of them back when SFT tried to fire Frank Glamser and Gary Stringer) haven't all gone into hiding.
I will continue to link this board from Liberty and Power but its URL is, shall we say, less memorable than the AAUP-USM one was.
