OK folks -- consider this a preliminary invitation to a celebration on May 12 (Saturday) the day after graduation. Exact time and place to be determined but it will certainly be some place that played a big role in our history together . . . .
We can CELEBRATE! that the FUTURE is NOW! Bring your stories, your memories , your hopes (and love of conviviality!)
Reserve the date and stay tuned everyone . . . . .
Great idea, Stephen! I will be there in spirit, but March 12 is the date of my university's graduation and I'm a little too far away to make it. BUT pictures are a must! I will expect them! Two thumbs up for brighter days ahead.

We WILL take pictures and post'em . . . Hey -- maybe you could send a picture of yourself having a celebration and we can put it up!
In fact -- I hope everybody can come but if you can't send a pic (a photo file will do) and we will print them and then you will be there even though you aren't!
Capture a moment when you are making a toast -- because we will be doing plenty of them I am sure.
I'm afraid I will have to be there in spirit, too, as it's a long drive from Nashville to Hattiesburg. But I will host my own celebration here and take pictures to share! What a long time coming....enjoy the party, everyone!

Remember the open faculty senate meeting in the spring of 2003--the first time we saw Hanbury. Remember the faculty senate meeting when the unanimous vote of no confidence was taken--and Hanbury sitting in the back until the meeting was closed. Thank goodness those days are over.
I completely remember that meeting -- a true day in infamy. But those days are almost over.
The folks in Whitewater says that our almost Prez goes to Senate faculty meetings and makes reports to the faculty each meeting. How civilized is that? One of my previous President's at SUNY New Paltz (also a woman) did likewise. No one EVER confused her for a pushover. But we also didn't feel as though we were out of the loop . . . .
Truth and Patti -- your pics would be faboo (rhymes with . . . . you know). Even though you won't be there in the flesh . . . but in the spirit. I am really anxious to see everyone's face and to see just how big this community is!
Some of you I know in person, many I know only from your posts. I wish I could be at the party to celebrate with all of you, but it's a long way to Hattiesburg from here, and I have professional obligations that weekend.
The great numbers of us who left USM in the midst of the Thames crisis will certainly be celebrating, wherever we are, and we'll be with you in spirit, you may be sure of that.
During this Easter season it seems appropriate to express the hope that USM will experience the miracle of its own resurrection during the coming administration! (It will take nothing less than a miracle.)
Also (from times past) -- brooms; no quarter buttons, and all of those other pieces of regalia that popped up. I hope the See More will show . . . and Noel Polk and Neil McMillan and all of those early heroes -- Doug Chambers!
Stephen, count me as another former colleague who will "only be there in spirit" for the long-awaited party, as my "new job" responsibilities will keep me away from Hattiesburg. I'll still have my "no SFT" button on my briefcase -- the one with Shelboo's face and the red diagonal slash.

Professor Judd, me n Thibodeaux be der fer dat party, yea. Thibodeaux be der in de spirits, cause he always in der spirits if ya know but what me mean. Does ya have a place in der back we can tie up T-Fred so he dont get to der people food?
Fireworks might be tough since we may well be somewhere where they might not be legal. However -- this is not to deny that some folks might wish to go somewhere afterward . . . . and "shine the light."!

Well, I guess I can't wear my dark suit & shades ...
