"In a motion passed Tuesday during a closed meeting, the Faculty Senate of The University of Southern Mississippi formally condemned recent actions taken by USM President Shelby F. Thames and his administration. ...
Myron Henry, professor of mathematics and president of the Senate, feels the recent actions of the administration have been rushed in a time when care needs to be taken with any decision.
"I think people were really surprised about the sudden resignation of Pierce," said Henry, "during a semester of transition, there is a hope that there won't be big administration changes."
The motion continues, saying "we believe that conspiring to secure the resignation of a respected dean just months before the appointment of a new president is fully out of step with the premise that all should now focus on assuring a smooth transition from the current administration to a new one."
For claims the president is stirring the water before leaving office, Grimes said, "both the president and I are planning for smooth transitions to the next administration."
I wonder if this means that D. Jay is remodeling his house at the Gulf Coast Research Lab, or is he seeking external employment, like other Deans.
"Lashes out" ?? The tone of the headline does not match the tone of the actual comments reported. The headline writer needs a new Thesaurus. The comments reported seem quite measured and polite, not anything we would call "lashing."

LVN, maybe the reporter was actually at the "closed meeting", and is trying to give the flavor of the discussion. Maybe the article is only what was fit to print.
For the record, I'm just guessing;I wasn't at the meeting.
