Prior to 2002, Dana was known as incompetent and immature by some people in Education & Psychology, but she was relatively unknown outside that college. And while there were rumors about Shelby, not many of us really knew much about him. Thanks to this website, international publicity over the past 5 years, and the many faculty and staff he has driven off to greener pastures elsewhere, the whole world knows these things. And despite the naysayers and rumor mongerers who pop up from time to time, we will have a new president by the end of May and most of the interim appointments and administrative toadies will be on their way out and the healing and the righting of wrongs can begin. It will take time, but I believe this will happen.
Dana and Shelby, on the other hand, will have to live with their legacies. His, as the worst president that this institution has ever known, and perhaps one of the worst higher education has ever known, and hers as a spoiled little girl who had to get her daddy to fix things for her in order to succeed.
I expect she will find her life very difficult at USM and she can forget getting a job elsewhere, because who would want to hire her?I have no sympathies for these people as they have done these things to themselves.
I want to focus on May 20th.It will be a Sunday during intersession, but I think we need to have some kind of celebration.I want to hear somebody paraphrase our late President Ford who said at his inauguration after Watergate, “My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over.”
