Has anyone heard anything about any of the applying candidates for the President's position?

I have heard that Gregg Lassen has his name in the pot...

Naturally, no real news is coming from the Search Advisory Committee who are diligently reviewing the applications.  I understand a number of candidates are talking to friends about applying.  Hopefully, none of the shenanagans going on in the College of Education and Psychology will scare off good candidates.  There are quite a number of really reliable faculty on the committee and no doubt, they will be able to separate the good candidates from the others.

Miss Belle:

The names of those applying will be more confidential than the records were of the Mississippi Sovereignty Commission were before they were finally opened.

The presidential advisory committee took an oath not to give info about the candidates. I am sure your info did not come from one of these people.

My sources had not heard that Lassen had put his name in the pot. My sources give me some names of other Mississipians that have applied or are considering applying. They are: Hank Bounds, Don Cotten, Tom Burnham, Frances Lucas, Brett Warr, William Lewis, Willie Pierce, Pat Joachim, and Amy Tuck.

I will keep you informed of others that I here are applying or may apply.

Steve Doblin was nominated and may have applied. Many (but not all) of the above locals are made men (or women) in the Ginn/Lucas/Thames family. I hope we don't go in that direction at this point in the university's history.

How interesting that ten names have been given since my original post.

My information came from a friend of Lassen's.

In my opinion, the university does not need Lassen on campus again.  My two cents...

That would be alias' quote.

The university does not need anyone who was ever, associated with the Thames regime A clean sweep is in order. From what we are hearing, that's what we've been promised. Will it happen? I'm so far out of the loop that I can't speculate, but I sure hope it will.

Reliable sources confide that Meredith has identified W.J. Johnson of D'Lo as the darkhorse candidate who most impressed the advisory committee.  Perhaps Emma can shed more light on Professor Johnson's candidacy.

AE, that may be very worrisome news.  If Johnson were to be named Prez, I'd be afraid that he might offer the Provost-ship to Mlle. de Guerre.  If I recall, her earlier decision not to serve had something to do with the drive to the D'Lo campus and her inability to hire a chauffeur.  With Johnson here in Hattiesburg, she might be tempted to take the position after all.  While we all love and admire Monique, and while she has verve and integrity, I'm not sure the University community is ready for some of the decorating innovations that might occur.  I'd think long and hard about this one.  (Although that poodle of hers might have some effect on the feral cat situation.)

Mes petites, I have no word from cher professeur Johnson that he has been asked to help our poor university by becoming, most reluctantly I am sure, its president. If he calls me, I will report here tout de suite. I must tell you all, however, that my precious Dervish would not imagine himself in the role of cat-herder. Nor could I imagine myself in the role of your Provost. The two jobs have some similarities, n'est ce pas? However, Dervish could I am sure, provide a productive work environment for the cats, who no doubt have better uses for their time than to live in fear and want. Perhaps as Provost I could do the same for you, dear friends. Alas, the demands on my time do not permit me to indulge that happy thought. I am deeply involved in assembling a collection of my posts to be published this summer in a small collection, possibly entitled "Onward Through the Fog: The Saving of a School" -- dear Miss Angleterre suggested the title. We wish Dr. Johnson all the success most grand, and are ready to assist as he may ask. One imagines a great deal of scrubbing and refurbishment will be required.

bonne nuit, mes amis,

M. de G.

These font selections are most delightful.
