Another example of insufficent engagement? Minor correction-Dr. Eric Dahlen is PI, and Berman is Co. Dr. Dahlen should therefore get lead billing (way to go Eric!!). Note that this grant application underwent the full competive peer review process at the NIH (this was not a mark) and it is not a subcontract from another institution.

Onto another topic. I was wondering if there is interest out there in starting a thread on the formation of a College of Social and Behavioral Science? As many of you know, Provost Grimes has invited psychology to explore the possibility of finding a new home outside the College of Education (it would be disingenuous to call us the College of Education and Psychology at this point anyway). Psychology formed an exploratory committee, and requested information from various deans about a potential match. Given the screwy alignment of colleges at USM, however, there is no real good fit for us--a problem shared by many other programs at USM. At other universties, psychology, anthro/soc, political science, geography, communications and so on have joined forces as a College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Of course, any re-alignment would require waiting until we have an administration in place that is capable of evaluating the entire university structure in a professional and competent manner. But it might be worthwhile to start the converstation.

An obvious observation with regards to this boon to Eric and Mitch is it's appropriateness to life on our campus. Wouldn't it be fitting if the Dome Gnome were to, in a show of team spirit and collegiality, be the first one to answer the call for volunteers?
