1/26/2007 ( ) Jackson, MS—Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Thomas C. Meredith has appointed Dr. Denise K. von Herrmann to The University of Southern Mississippi Search Advisory Committee. Dr. von Herrmann fills the vacancy left by the untimely death of Dr. Elliott Pood. The Search Advisory Committee is charged with assisting the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) with its search for the next president of The University of Southern Mississippi.
Dr. von Herrmann was recently appointed interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Southern Miss. She previously served as associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Arts and Letters and as interim dean of the Gulf Coast. A public policy expert, Dr. von Herrmann has focused her research and writings on the political and economic impacts of the casino gambling industry.
