According to the USM website:

"HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of Southern Mississippi President Shelby F. Thames announced today that Dr. Denise K. von Herrmann has been appointed interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters effective immediately. She fills the vacancy left by the death of Dr. Elliott Pood who had served as dean since 2003."


It would have been nice for the directors/chairs to find out first hand instead of learning via the website. So much for open communication on campus

at the visitation on Saturday, chairs knew about this.  it was apparently discussed among them on friday.  for many, this is old news.

Not all chairs new of the appointment prior to this morning.  I know of one director/chair who found out this morning.  Also it was not known in the Dean's office until this morning.

Well, I wish Dr. von Herrmann the best as she moves into a very difficult situation.
