The board room in the University of Southern Mississippi’s administration building was packed with reporters from across Mississippi, as well as USM President Shelby Thames and members of his administration on a December afternoon in 2004.

Thames was addressing the media on how incomplete paperwork led to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Colleges putting the university’s accreditation on probation.

I had only been a reporter at “The Student Printz,” the student run newspaper at The University of Southern Mississippi, for a year and a half. ...

...“My children went to this university, and they turned out all right. At least I think they did.”

This leads to me to my point. We go through life hearing people talk about this, that and the other.

Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Then we hear that gem of a quote. That one thing that makes you laugh. Sometimes it isn’t meant to sound funny, but it made people snicker anyway....
